I.D. This Fairing? Yamaha? Unknown....

XS Folks,
I acquired this fairing today for basically nothing ($20). It has a Yamaha emblem under the windscreen that APPEARS to be original. But, it's certainly possible someone just stuck a Yamaha sticker on it. This fairing sort of resembles the Shoei I have on my Dead Duck but this is bigger. It has a 4-point mounting (2 under windscreen, 2 lower front)


Yamaha Logo under the windscreen.....MIGHT BE original?


I can't find ANY identification number of any sort anywhere.

Got an idea what this is or where it came from?

I believe that was out of the Yamaha accessory catalog for a Special. I don't know who made them. Get the attention of Wildcat on here. She had one and sold it on here or one of the FB sites. She would know if that's what it is.

The seller told me he purchased a "Lot Sale" of misc. motorcycle parts and the only thing he knew about this was that he took it off of a really old Yamaha street bike. Again, some people call ten years really old so that information was of very little help. For $20 I couldn't pass it up. Might be a good spare for Dead Duck whatever it is.....

I have the same fairing. Got it included with a hard bag purchase for a song.
The youngster I bought it all from said it was on his dads XS 750. I haven't tried to fit it to my SF 'cause I have a similar Shoei on it now. It's kinda beat up and the windshield that was on it wasn't the right one. It also has some holes drilled in it as the PO had an old cassete player and one big speaker mounted on the top behind the shield. It probably could be saved if I could find a shield for it.

Same as yours, just the Yamaha emblem, no part #s.

Thank you for those photos! Now I know IT IS A YAMAHA ITEM and I also know how they originally mounted the thing. Looks like the lower part of those brackets would engage the lower tree clamp bolts. I didn't get the brackets only the fairing and windscreen. I can fabricate those brackets without too much effort plus I have some extra Memphis Shade and Shoei parts that can be re-purposed nicely.

I would be more than happy to trace the windscreen on a piece of paper for you if needed? The windscreen on mine is a little scratched up but I think I can buff out the scratches, none are deep more like a little scuff here or there. Fortunately, there does not appear to be any extra drilling done to the fairing just one paint chip and some overspray that will be easy to remove and repair.

It may very well become Blue and find a home on my Mayberry SG. but the OEM headlamp mounted turn signals will have to move or be placed on it to accommodate the fairing. I also have a OLD SHOEI on my SH but it allows for the OEM signal placement.


I don't believe cutting into this Yamaha accessory to provide a provision for the OEM signal placement is a good move. This could also have some greater value to a XS750/850 guy. I got some thinking to do....

I've done a bit of investigation and found some information that may be useful to others in the future so I'll post it here so it could be found in a search later if someone needed it.

This fairing was produced by/for Yamaha. It was offered in either; Ruby Red or Black and was a dealer installed item.
The original part number is:
ACC-11144-XX-00.
The XX is replaced by numbers corresponding to either Ruby Red or Black.
Two mounting kits were offered.
ACC-11144-31-00 XS650G, SG
ACC-11144-32-00 XS750 SE & SF, XS850 SG, XS1100 SF & SG.
I have not yet found the Yamaha part number for a replacement windscreen. I have contacted Gustafson to see if they make one.

The original retail price for the fairing was slightly more than $100. The mounting kits added another $35+/-. I assume this option was not very popular as it is impossible to find even one photo of this item mounted on any XS anywhere on the web. The unit was discontinued in the mid 1980's.

I've also searched everywhere and have yet to see any others offered for sale. I did find some reference to this fairing on a Yamaha triple site and a couple folks paid "Stupid Money" (in my opinion) to acquire them. But they never posted a single photo....

The mounting kits are for sale all over Evil-bay and a couple on Amazone. Sellers seem to think these are more valuable than I do especially since the fairing itself is impossible to find. The mounting kit isn't worth that much if the fairing is so hard to find?

Personally, I've decided to mount this one to my XS11 bagger "Mayberry". I like it a lot more than the small Memphis Shade I have mounted on it and it will provide a great deal more wind/rain protection. I'm in the process of preparing it for Mayberry BLUE paint. The windshield cleaned up pretty well and although it has a couple small scratches in it, that's nothing more than would be in a new windscreen a couple weeks after it's installed anyway so I can live with a couple small scratches. I've made an offer on a mounting kit and if the seller accepts I'll definitely have this on before XSSE!

I will post a photo once it's on in a couple of weeks. Probably be the only photo of this thing anywhere on the web.

The issue is will it do what you want. Some bar mounts have a big effect on steering. Some are too small to really cover you. Some are so big its like you are pushing a sheet of plywood in front of you and some shake and create wobble at high speed. So I would say if it does what you need or want and looks good and is rare you have a gem. If its not what you want / need then its not worth much but you will not feel like everybody else has one.

One more thing you can remove a large amount of scratches and yellowing from the screen but it can take work. My shield had deep scratches and I had to sand it down and reduce grit till I got to 2000 wet and dry. Then to talcum powder and then rubbing compound. The trick is do not polish at too high a speed or with too much pressure as the heat will cause it to smear instead of buff.

I'm in the process of mocking mine up on my SF, as I won't be using the stock turn signal location, which the Shoei I had on demanded.
I'll be using stock XJ 750 turns that mount on the lower tree, like the Euro Sport, which I'm hoping will work well with the fairing.

If all looks good then I'll probably take you up on your offer of a tracing of the shield in hopes that I can have Gustafon make one.

In addition, I acquired a complete N.O.S. mounting kit with Yamaha instructions and all the hardware still in the bag for $35 (plus ship).
The seller accepted my offer (asking was $58.50 OBO). It APPEARS that the OEM signals are MOVED to the mounting brackets lower position. Therefore, no other signals or hardware beyond the kit are needed. The XJ signals may make the mounting more complicated/difficult?

I expect the kit to show here on Monday so I can copy and share the instructions with you here or via PM. A post here could be helpful to some other guy at a later date.....

Since you already have the main components of the mounting system you probably only need a couple nuts or bolts to make it all work as envisioned by the Yamaha designer/engineer. I can & will trace the outline of the windscreen I have for you. It's not very complicated and has a minimal curve so it might be possible to fab one at home saving a bit of cash.

The OEM signals are re-positioned to the brackets as I thought. I suspect the XJ signals COULD BE in the way or might make the OEM bolts too short if both items use the same mounting.

Today the entire mounting package arrived shipped in it's original 35+ year old OEM Yamaha box with all the hardware still sealed in the bag! Took a bit longer to get than I had hoped but I haven't had any time to work on my bikes anyway. I couldn't be happier to have the full kit! Fabricating this or a replacement would be a royal PITA.
