......besides, don't think a red Ford Escape matches very well on a group ride of Kaways/XS11's on a group ride, although the AC and tunes is comforting........BTW, rally looked to be a hoot with some 15 bikes lined up at an intersection in town!Last edited by motoman; 07-17-2016, 03:30 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Gonna take a few more weeks before we're done...hopefully in time for XSSE...even though this is only a mock up...I'm already chomping at the bit...so to say...I cannot wait to get her back home...plus being bikeless already has me climbing the walls...Last edited by madmax-im; 07-22-2016, 11:11 AM.1980 XS650G Special-Two

A SLIGHTLY complicated upgrade.

Ben's bike is a little more complicated than the typical bike with a few cool extras/accessories that need a work around in a few places. We've already found that the mirrors are going to be an issue with clearance if Ben would like to use the column lock.
I also have to pick the lesser of two evils to remove the no longer needed headlamp ears; A.) remove the forks downward where it will be required to remove the wheel & etc. to get the clearance or B.) take apart the whole world on top including those accessory gauges and the entire upper tree to pull them off the top.
The oil cooler also occupied the space where the fairing support bracket now resides so a complete re-do of the cooler mounting is required with a bunch of drilling & tapping required. Very fortunately, the lines are long enough to allow for the modification of mounting without too much difficulty.
What appears to be the final SMALL hurdle was a little bit of soldered wiring that had to be cut apart or I couldn't get the old lamp bucket off. We also needed the wiring BOOT/SOCK that we quickly found on Evil-Bay for an acceptable price.
Made what appears to be a bunch of progress in less than a week but most of that is evaluation & prep work. All-in-all we'll Git-R-Done nice & pretty for XSSE but it might be a little close!

Lots of Details
Looks like lots of nice improvements going on Kurt!
If it were me taking off the headlight mounting ears, I would:
"A.) remove the forks downward where it will be required to remove the wheel & etc. to get the clearance"
However, I never manage to get the front forks off without removing the brake calipers (and leaving them dangle), but at least I'm used to doing it.-Mike

I never expected this fairing to be the nightmare it was...then ofc the unexpected on my bike because its not OEM...alot of mods went into Swampthing and now they are rearing their ugly heads...so to say...fortunately Kurt is the go to man...so in Kurt we Trust!
About those mirrors...I never use the fork/steering lock and if i had to i could just move or remove that mirror...JAT as this is a minor detail compared to everything else...1980 XS650G Special-Two

Fairing
Hi Kurt,
Typical fairing install usually leaves the headlight bucket brackets folded in rather removed. The Venturer oil cooler and fairing bracket are sandwiched together originally from Yamaha.
I'm sure this sounds easier than what you may actually have in front of you.1981 XS1100H Venturer
