So I had Tom, from Half Moon Bay, come over yesterday morning and ride off on his "new" bike early afternoon. My "Quail Bike" is now his bike, and I think we will have someone new on the board soon.
He had a '79 that is in sad shape from the ocean air, but wanted another XS11. As my bike needed carbs to run properly, he brought over the set from his old bike, and I checked them out, changed mains as his were too large, and put them into the Quail. After a sync, and quick ride by me, I knew that is what the bike has been needing! It ran well, and Tom stopped for some BBQ at our local shop, then road it home to HMB, about 75 miles up the coast road.
I got a text from him after he got home, and he was VERY HAPPY with the way it ran! I'm glad it went to someone who likes the bike for what is CAN do, and not try to chop it up to be something it was never designed to be.
After all the work I've put into it, I just got my parts money back out.... SWMBO is happy, so I'm happy, and I have a little more room in the garage.
