    First time...have to see if this works...i have a 1980 xs1100 special...i have a parts bike 1978...carbs are different...i beleave it is a air venton the 78 models...can it be pluged...will it work or will it just run bad...ty

    If you plug the bowl vents, it will definitely run bad. Pipe the bowl vents to the nipples on the air box, but first make sure they are drilled through. The '78 carbs need the vent to allow the proper flow of fuel to the bowl. It's just an atmospheric vent. Some guys run the hoses open or with a small filter on the end. Whatever you do, don't hook them to a vacuum source.

    With the '80 carbs, you may have to re-jet to get optimum performance. I believe they were jetted leaner than the earlier models for emissions reduction. If all things are right with the carbs, they should work good enough to get you going, though.
