  • Windjammer Fairing - All the same?

    XS Guys,

I have a chance to get a "WindJammer I" fairing for $50. The guy that has it works with my wife and asked if I might want it. She's been talking about our weekend trips around GA and our planned trip to XSSE. We've already received a couple nice gifts from her co-workers including a set of soft bags $0, and a mini handlebar mount shade $0. The Windjammer was removed from an 80's model Honda CB750. It would come with a radio and some other minor accessories.

I know NOTHING about windjammer fairings as I have never owned one (or a bike that could carry one). Obviously, the mounting bracketry is not going to be the same for an XS1100 but if the main fairing is the same I could fabricate/purchase some brackets if I decide to use it SOMEDAY.

I'm honestly not sure if I would EVER install one of those BUT my wife's co-worker said it's in perfect condition just dusty from sitting in his storage shed for 15+ years. If we want it for our bike, we can have it for $50. Even if it does not go on this XS11 I might find some use for it on some other bike...

Are all "Windjammers" the same size dimensions? I've seen some Marked Windjammer II and Windjammer III and these obviously have some sort of differences but is the BASE unit all the same within the model versions or do they have Small, Medium, Large or some other size designations?

Any tidbit of info would be helpful. I can grab it this weekend if I decide that I want it.

    Sincerely,
    KURT

I think you're right, the "base" is the same with just more or different features as they evolved....
I have a Windjammer and a TAA from the same era and they are the same size, and mounts the same...
If the windscreen is nice, we'll worth 50 bucks.....replacement lexan is 180 dollah.....

the WJ I is one model of fairing and the WJ II is a different model etc etc...

They are all roughly the same size but the fairings are different stylings, just google the names for pics of the different versions. It has nothing to do with features or accessories, they are just different fairings.

The only Wind Jammer that is slightly different is the Wind Jammer V. It takes different lowers.

What is the difference with the V from the others because I run with the V and lowers.

I know there are differences between the hole alignments where the lowers fasten between some, like Greg was saying.

I had a Vetter 4 fairing on my XJ, bought some used Vetter 3 lowers from Cobia, and they didn't line up. I made them work by drilling to line them up, which was no biggee. Other than that, they worked.

The V takes a different shaped lower at the top front mounting area. Type 54 lowers. All others take the type 2 lowers
