Ok this is a question being asked 1 million times but there is a reason why I am asking. I spoke to my newly found XS parts dealer yesterday. He has everything I need and his prices can't be beat. I explained to him about the bobber project etc and when I spoke of the 81 TCI (4R0 module) he asked me if I checked the neck if it is a special. What is meant by it and how wil I see on the frame or motor whether it is a special or standard. I matched I up on the list as an '81 XS1100SH canadian. This is according to the numbers on the frame and on the motor. Remember the frame was butchered, so headlight, clocks etc is none existant so using things like that to identify if it is special or std is impossible.

      Hey Bones,

I've seen TCI's with both the 4RO and 4R1 designations....one for special and one for Standard....but I can't imagine that there would be that much of a difference in the timing curves to matter with regards to your project, so you should be able to get either model of 81 TCI and should work just fine.

Just realize that the 81 TCI's were only made for 1 year, so they are quite a bit rarer than the 78-80 2H7's, and so they will also garner a higher price. So...just remember you can get a 2H7 TCI and switch out the timing cover parts and get it running possibly a lot cheaper. Just sayin'!

          Hi Boneswig,
If you are sure of your identification of your bike.
"I matched I up on the list as an '81 XS1100SH Canadian."
I suggest you add that to your signature.
It really helps the collective knowledge base here at XS11.com to advise on solutions when they know what model.
As you have already discovered pictures are often useful too.
