  • Stupid 'PO' stories...

I hate it when I buy parts and the seller out right lies about them...
So about 2 years ago I go to look at a parts bike...the bike is partially complete but the motor is siezed up, the owner was going to do a chopper and lost interest before chopping anything up. After chating he says 'oh yeah, if you buy it I'll give you this motor I picked up, I had the head rebuilt and was going to put it in after I got done with the frame mods. I buy the bike...

Fast forward to today - my engine siezed up last week, handy I have this other motor laying around. I install it and find all the valves are out of spec - makes sense given the head job and probable valve grind right? wait for shims and put the bike together today and ..... 0 compression on #1. Yeah 0 - like none.

What frustrates me is that the guy outright lied - no chance he had the head done and didn't know that either the piston has a big hole in it or the valves are bent or something. I'd have bought the parts anyways - there was basically no value assigned to the 'bonus' motor, but had he been honest I'd have known I needed to work on it before I put it in my frame and waited for parts etc etc.

Let me know what you need. I have a motor that came out of the '79, was running when the trans locked up. Started it after and it still ran and sounded good, but that was six years ago. One day drive and you have an engine, or at least the top end to put in your engine. Heck, the trans could be a main shaft gear, I have two with missing teeth, or it could be a star washer, but I doubt it.
If you can drive down for it, it's yours cheep! I may even have a few other parts if you need them to get going.

        'Jammer V jam

I was noodeling around on Craig’s list a week ago when I ran across a Vetter Windjammer V faring for sale about 2 hours drive from here. The picture somewhat out of focus but what I could see looked as if it could be cleaned up. I emailed him and I was assured that it was in good shape.
When I arrived it was clear that the faring had been hit and repaired with fiberglass and a very amateurish job at that plus there were stress fractures all about it. After I pointed all this out the guy said I could have it half the price. I told him he should be paying me for my time to drive over to inform him this was junk.
He admitted he didn’t know anything about the faring, somebody had given it to him. He then said I could have it for free.
Well, just for that, I took it.
The turn signals, locking cover and wiring are salvable. My day was not a total loss.
Anybody know how much fiberglass I will need to get the ‘jammer V turn signals on my ‘Jammer III?

"I had the head rebuilt" could mean the guy he bought it from claimed to have rebuilt it or a friend did it. There is no qualifying process to post on Craig's List. Some sellers know what they are selling, others are just getting rid of stuff. If you know more than they do, then you might get a deal. The hard part is knowing whether you know more, and the fact that their ignorance can hurt you.

I have also considered superglue, kindergarten paste or bubblegum.
