  • XS1100 Parts from UK? Germany?

    XS Folks,

I noticed several parts (mostly aftermarket pieces) available from Evil-Bay sellers in the UK and a couple from Germany. I can't find these parts offered in the US for anything less than 3x as much. Has anyone had any experience with getting parts from European e-bay sellers?

For example, there's a seller offering the rubber control covers (clutch lever) for a very reasonable $8(+/-). Their feedback is as good as any of the people I would buy from in the U.S. (<1 bad per 200 sales and I'll usually buy from them). HOWEVER, the few bad comments they have pretty much all relate to extreme shipping delays... Seller states they use "Royal Mail International".

NOTE: I once purchased a cheap part for my Z-28 from a Canadian seller...... Several weeks later I get a PAY UP NOW notice from UPS for about $30++ in tax and import fees . I'm don't want any of that kind of stuff.

Thoughts on purchases from UK & Germany?

    Sincerely,
    KURT

It just depend on where from, and how reliable the service they use is. James has not been on here in awhile to chip-in, but he informed me they use private carriers for shipping everything. I just received a package from England (Morgan), and it took a little over a week.

Check availability of OEM parts before going overseas. Several vendors offer bargains on new OEM parts.

      partzilla.com
      carolinacycle.com
      yamahapartshouse.com
      ronayers.com
      yamahasportscenter.com
      etc. etc.

Those rubber boots mentioned are available from the above vendors for $7 give or take.

This is the part number for the clutch, not sure of the part number for the brake.

                Steering clear of Europe.....

                Bill & Marty,
Thanks for the info. I bought all the stuff from Partzilla (and a few other items). Since Partzilla is home based in Georgia I usually get my stuff from them in about two days.

My example may not have been the best as there are several other items offered overseas that appear to be very good deals.

Because of the potential for significant taxes and fees I'm steering well clear of the European sellers. The sellers in China with items that I'm interested in (driving lamps, etc.) are all loaded with comments about shipping delays, broken parts, mis-fitting parts, and poor customer service.

It's better for me to pay the extra dollars and avoid the many potential pitfalls of working with overseas folks.

                Thanks again,
                KURT

                  Hi Kurt,
While there have been many good experiences with buying from another country. Aside from the same risks as buying over the net there is also the added risk with border crossings when surprise fees and of course duties and taxes ( non of which the buyer can control) appear.
