    Remember me?

    Well, it's been about four years since I've visited with you folks, and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since my last thread. The last few years with my mom was a full-time affair and I wasn't able to ride. She made it to 90, and passed away about a year and a half ago. Things have settled down to the point where it's time to put Betsy back on the road, so get ready - I've got four years worth of dumb questions saved up.
    I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

    '79 XS11 Standard, Jardine 4/1, Dyna DC1-1 Coils, 145 mains, 45 pilots, plastic floats - 25.7mm, XV920 fuel valves, inline fuel filters, speed bleeders, Mikes XS pods, spade-type fuse block, fork brace, progressive fork springs/shocks, manual petcocks, 750 FD, Venture cam chain tensioner, SS brake lines

      Welcome back. Glad your mom made it to 90, but sorry for your loss. My mom passed last year at 79, but that was still 39 extra years the Dr. DIDN'T give her! We can only guess, and try to do right while on this rock...

          Of course we remember you Doug! Glad to see you back in the fold, we've got some work ahead of us as Bill has a dead cylinder and I still need to get it in gear a deal with a vacuum leak in mine. Sorry to hear about your mom, but it's good to hear from you again. Commence with the dumb questions! Have a nice day and ride safe

                You guys cracketh me up. I'm still chuckling about that one, Ray. Your comment about your mom reminded me of my dad. They gave him six months to live in 1983, and he passed in 2004 - when he was good and ready, and after he dragged his Airstream all over the country. Doctors.... meh!

                Matt, I bought mom's house when she passed, so I'm still in the same place - with the same man cave. I've got two XS's sitting out there right now (Betsy and my brother's G) that need quite a bit of work. I decided to do my bros first and the work is progressing nicely. Bill told me about his electrical issue, and I know Wendy's got some issues too. Soon as I get these two beasts back on the road we'll see about a work day.

                It's great to hear from you guys. Feels like coming home.

                  It doesn't seem like it's been 4 years! My how time flies when you're/we're getting older! Sorry to hear about your mom, also. Mine is 88 with just some mild dementia/short term memory loss...she keeps saying she doesn't have much time left. Regrettably we've lost of few members the past few years as well....you may want to take a look in the Memorium forum to get caught up.

                  Anyways, welcome back, and being a guru yourself, you can't have too many dumb questions left to ask!

                    I was pretty shocked when DGSXER left us. He had asked me just a month or so before if I would take him and his son shooting, and I said I would but hadn't gotten around to it yet. That's the second time in my life I've been reminded in this manner that you have to make time for your friends. Should have learned my lesson the first time.

                    On the links, after looking at the first couple I thought to myself, "somebody bought a new bandsaw." Definitely some interesting mods and discussions going on.

                    About the only mod/upgrade I've got in mind for Betsy (after a bunch of general maintenance and cleaning) is a Mikes XS coilectomy and some SS brake lines. Those darn green Mike's coils drew so much voltage that they acted like a rev limiter. I've got a set of 3 ohm Dynas to replace them with, but I have to finish my brother's G before I rip into Betsy. I'm looking forward to putting her back on the road.

                      Maineville, OH to the Iron Horse is only about 400 miles. At XS Southeast, you can shake hands with a whole bunch of us. You still have two months to get ready, and there's already a bunch coming that way, so we can hook you up. Think about it, but not for too long.
