  • Sunday Target Practice

    Hey folks,

Along with going out today to donate blood, I also went with the SWMBO to the local pistol range to get her a little more experience with her S&W MP40 Shield for her CC ability. She doesn't like guns, and is a little bit afraid of them which is good with regards to having respect for it. She shot it a few times, and that was enough for her! I won't put up her target sheet....it was only at 5 yards, and she hit the shoulder, and a few other misses! She actually prefers the older Ruger 357Mag Service Revolver we got some 30+ years ago....but it's a bit "big" to put in a purse. However both only have about 6 rounds due to the single stack clip the "Shield" uses. One clip will actually hold 7, plus if I put one in the pipe and then reload the clip, she can have a total of 8! She's a nurse and does home visits, sometimes in shady parts of town!

Mine is a S&W MP40 full size, holds 15 in the clip. I only shot 1 clip full because she had already left the range room and had gone back into the sales room, so I knew she didn't want to stick around long...and I had to drive across town to the other donation center. The one close to the gun range was only doing platelets that day!

Anyways, I set my target, which was the smaller Silhouette 10.5"W x 21" H, to the maximum 11 yard distance for the range. I was surprised at how well I did...I really like that pistol...put on the wider grips to fill my hands better.

Hope you all have had a good weekend!

TC I am happy to see you helping her and working with her on personal Protection. My hat is off to her for going threw the process as many women just do not want to do it. I think with the current environment more people need to go and legally obtain protection and training for using it. Training as most people familiar with firearms know is just as important as having it. On that 40cal use a low grain bullet to improve her shooting. It will give much less recoil and can improve accuracy. I have a CZ 40 as well as others but like your wife like my Rugger Red Hawk 44 for accuracy but it would look stupid carrying it.

Thanks for donating as some us who have traveled can not for a period of time.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Cool, TC! Good shooting, and good to see the Mrs. is involved. It may take her a while to get used to the range and the noise.

My gf and I go frequently. She's as good or better shot than I am! No worries about her being able to defend herself!

But, she'll shoot a few mags, and she's done, ready to go! So I know what you mean...

              Low and left....

Get a penny and stick it on top of the slide.
Dry fire till the penny doesn't move.

              You're anticipating the shot.

Yeah, fwiw I have a few pistols, love my Ruger's, especially the .44's.
Carry is an LC9, favorite is the 7" Super Blackhawk but it's really not a concealed carry.

If SWMBO likes the revolver there are purses specifically made to carry them that I'm sure she'd like to get for a present.

I remember putting a dime on the barrel of my M16 to practice breathing and trigger squeeze.
The fun part was being on an artillery base with 105 and 155 rounds dropping on the Redleg range just down the road.

Once I figured out the timing and worked out how to get in synch with Arty and fire between rounds it was easy to get a rhythm going. Some people never did figure it out so it was a multi-purpose lesson that day on the range. The Army just loves multi-purpose lessons and people that don't learn them.
