Looks like Hellbender is the whole enchilata, Moonshiner, for whatever reason skips the dam area both directions, and is shorter.

          Hi Ben,
when I looked for a sticker for the bike they only have Moonshiner 28
She said the locals were trying not to use Hell bender anymore. Marty will know.

To the best of my knowledge The Hellbender is the portion of NC28 that connects to US129 at The Dragon and goes 22 miles to Stecoah. From that point the road flattens out and then goes to four lanes for several miles.

Moonshiner 28 includes NC28, GA28, and SC28. It includes the 100+ miles from The Dragon to Walhalla, SC. XSSE riders will remember following it through the Cullasaga Gorge.

                Hi Mary,
We knew you would know I bought the Moonshiner sticker so I guess just a sales pitch Sounds as though I have ridden it all anyway so I will stick it on.
I must look for a Hellbender sticker next visit.

                    Ben,

Its just a way to sell crap. It is not really defined.
It depends on what store you are in. Its all MARKETING .......
a way to part money from peoples wallets.

If you travel the road and stop at every store you will see it is inconsistent about what its called.
Our Cherokees called it one thing and white man Europeans another. I just call it a GREAT run of TWISTIES ................

When you are at the intersection of US129 and NC28 and pointed towards Tennessee, the business on your right is Deals Gap. The business on your left is Tail of the Dragon. You may have to get a tee shirt from each to keep the bases covered.

I get it...its all a marketing ploy...the topic came up in a conversation with a friend of mine from NJ...hr just bought a 2015 BMW1200 GSA. And he came down to W.NC and E.TN for a weeks riding...he stayed at the Iron Horse with 4 others and they rented the Rocky Top home there. He had never been downhere before but he got almnost everyting about their trip correct...his only complaint was that they felt the I-H lodge was in a too remote location..from restaurants and stores and gas...since he was there all during the week I-H doesnt cook suppers on Sun or Mon ...its better on the weekends...
