    Hey all,
Long time lurker, first time post-starter here. I bought a 79 XS11 Standard about two years ago as a project. The previous owner was a diesel mechanic and he thought cylinder 1 had a fried ring, but once I got it home I noticed my beloved piston #1 had a large hole in it, which would cause the nasty oil blowby he was seeing seep out of the exhaust pipes. But for $400, I wasn't complaining.

After a couple years I finally finished the project and I got it out last weekend for a ride with my brother-in-law. I was very surprised for a 36 year old bike. It handles nicely and really doesn't feel like a heavy bike, like I expected it would.

I normally ride a 2003 Ninja 250R, (bought because they are easy to work on and I had history with this specific bike from before I purchased it) but now I'm spoiled by the power of my recently resurrected XS11.

I just wanted to come in and formally thank everyone for all the information here in the forums.

    And pictures for reference:

I'm going to throw the bags and sissybar back on and get the seat recovered, but I was just amazed it started last weekend!

Nice looking bike! Only changes from stock I notice are the round headlight, seat and Jardine slip-on exhaust. Be safe!
