  • Don't try THIS at home...

    OH Well...
Youse guys ain't gonna' believe this one...

Some guy nomed Johnny told me a real sad story about an XS 1100 living in a carport on Whidbey Island Washington...all alone...and with only 26K,Stock seat (perfect no tears: ) T-Kat, 4-into-1, Progresive springs, immaculate paint & emblems. Stainless brake lines, Good rubber, crash bars, and no one to ride or care for it...
some of you will remember what I've said about XS 1100s and sad stories... "I never met an XS 1100 I didn't like" (Steve Linderman cir-1978 AD)
So EARLY Saturday morning Mo-n-I Jumped on the "New Kid" (My '81 SH) and took off for Whidbey Island...
And YES the ferry ride (both ways) was AWESOME!!!!
When we got there (ON TIME) there was Johnny...so we followed him (4 miles)and then up a long berry shrouded lane...WAAAAY out in the sticks....( can't you FEEL the X-citement building)
And just like the man said...There she was!!!
Hiding there behind an old lawn mower...and other yard equipment sorta' things...
    Was a 1979 YAMAHA XS 1100
she was "kinda' green' if you know what I mean...but it was only pollen!!! the MACHINE was 'clean'...and obviously well maintained (thanks Johnny)
A turn of the key showed lights...so I shed my coat (and suddenly forgetting that there's NO FOOL like an old FOOL ) I tried (in vain) to run her back down that berry covered lane and 'jump start' her...which only revealed the GR8 compression the motor had (yea, I put it in second ) after 5 more (futile) attempts...I found myself & Bike at the pavement
So by then I only had enough strength left to talk Johnny into sitting on it while MO-n-DUMMY (me ) pushed HIM!!!
And guess what? It happened...and just like I've said before "If she's got dash lights, I'll get her runnin'" (Steve Linderman cir-1968)
One good push...and WHAMO! ...then Johnny tries to 'play with' it and stops while trying to keep it running on TWO (2) year old gas ...so it stalls .

After suckin' all my innards back in I tell Johnny "THIS TIME DON'T STOP!!!" ...after all it was HIS motorcycle... and my days of pushin' 1102cc motorcycles is FAST comin' to an end
So MO-n-Dummy (me) give 'er the old heave-ho...and WHAMMO it starts again!!
And (believe it or not) Johnny ALMOST stops AGAIN He's 'feeding' it trying to 'keep it alive' and stop ALL at the same time!!! I yell (very feebly) "KEEP GOING" and he rides away
Molly then carried me back up the "berry covered lane" and laid me near some bushes .
After begging for oxygen (for a LONG time ) Molly said I'd better get up before Johnny came back and ran over my head or something to that effect.
When the Man ( Johnny, You da' Man) came back we paid him and thanked him...and tried to leave... Molly had trouble running a motorcycle with two (2) year old gas in it (imagine that!)
So I rode it down the "berry covered lane" pointed her in the right direction...and said "Revvv it up & let's GO!!! I jumped on the "New Kid' and we were off!!
With a 'low' battery she would not crank when we stopped for burgers (and Oxygen ) so I 'bumped started' her... then she wouldn't crank at the Ferry terminal...so I knew then that Molly was about to get her first long ride on an XS 1100 with a Fairing...I couln't take the chance of her stalling while boarding the ferry...only I could 'push start' the bike.
So I had her jump on the '81 SH ( with fairing) and I rode "BLACK MAGIC" (formerly known as the "Golden Viper") home In the rain I might add (just showers)
So now when I look out over our Domain I see FIVE...YES FIVE...5...BLACK, SHINY, BEAUTIFUL MOTORCYCLES (the Honda is red and #6)
And Guess what Gary? I can walk out the door and ride ALL but My '80SG (THE BEAST it's being detailed, and I would have to put the exhaust back on b4 I could ride her...and so now Molly has TWO 25yr olds' to love and care for
So the 'score' is now THREE FOR ME...TWO FOR HER
I'd better hurry...she's gainin' on me...
Oh, and by the way...all she needed was a GOOD bath! (the bike) and the battery has worked PERFECTLY since the ride home!!!
And I'll bet you guys can't guess why I'm going to Port Townsend on Tuesday...I'll let you know...
And for all you detectives out there...who were wondering about my statement " 5 Black, Shiny..." and were thinking "if the one he bought last Saturday WAS Purple"...then how are ALL 5 BLACK now??? I yanked that STUPID Purple tank off, and put on one of my 'spares' then sanded the side covers and painted them flat black ( I'll send pictures to all who ask or want to see 5 XS 1100 parked together)
But for now...I'm goin' to bed...those darn kids will want or need something tomorrow for sure (like me to ride them) so I need my strength.
    G'night all...

Hey Steve, what are you trying to do? Corner the XS market in the NW!
I can understand one good one. I can understand 2 Xs's, one to ride and another being rejuvenate. I can understand 3 XS's. One to ride, one being rejuvenated and one parts bike. But 5 wow! If all your kids want to go to university at the same time it is going to bankrupt you. And now you are out in search for number six.
You are just to "eXS SIVE"!
Take care, with 20 cylinders, 20 carburetors and 40 valves to care for you could loose a lot of sleep.

This is clearly a XSieve number of 11's to own. There should be some type of medication to curtail this type of activity. I guess you could name them Monday, Tuesday..............ect.

            Yikes, your gaining on me!

I own 6 XSs at the present time.

one "E", two "F"s, two "SF"s, and one "SG". All run but one of the "F"s and it will never run (parts'er).

The "E" is heading off to a new owner sometime in June.
The two "SF" have designated new owners and should be gone soon.

Hopefully by summer I will be back to just the two "F"s and the "SG".

                    stumble

Hey Jeff, getting back to my 79 Special, I had the bike runnin for maybe 10 seconds on its original carbs (one with a broken float post) and up to 5000 rpms on 2 or 3 ocassions but decided to install a near new set I got on ebay and do you suppose I can get the bike to run! Nothing but low RPM stumbling! Floats are clean, float height is on, all the goodstuff! Anyway it is just a project bike and back to regular maintenance and riding on the 78. One good thing I had the 79 running long enough to clean yrs of crud and oil out of the cylinders, man the smoke that rolled out of that bike when it was purging itself, I thought the neghbors were gonna call the fire dept!

We currently have 6 bikes. An aquaintence yesterday asked if I wanted to buy his Honda Hawk (same model I used to race). We might have #7 soon.
