  • Accident / Bike remains for sale

    Okay.

I have had my first, and last, cycle wreck. I'm not 100% sure how it happened, but I may have taken off with my kickstand down. Anyway... Not TOO badly injured, thank god... wound up with road rash on, well, everywhere, including my face, and a little tissue damage to my left shoulder. The bike took some damage, but not much. Turn signals, handlebars, pedals, case guards, center stand, etc. I plan on parting it out on eBay shortly, but I thought that I would offer her here first. $600.00 takes her away. She's in Holyoke Massachusetts, and I won't ship. Email me: samwhitcomb@yahoo.com

Sorry to hear about your mishap, glad it was not any worse. You sure you want to sell? Things will look different in a few days.

Many years ago I had an accident, totaled the bike, but due to safety gear I ended up with a sprained ankle and was very stiff for a week. Found I couldn't give it up, though, and the next spring (accident was in the fall) I was on another bike.

On the other hand, you have to feel comfortable, and I know many people who gave up riding when the anxiety began to to outweigh the fun.

Just don't make a quick decision that you may later wish you could reverse.

I just want to second Jerry's sentiments here. I've had several wrecks on several bikes, a few my own fault/stupidity/lack of experience, and a few from cagers, but fortunately aside from some road rashes, never suffered any serious damage, no broken bones, etc.. I enjoy biking, I'm not a do it every day rider, but I like it just the same. Funny, I never had any thoughts about not getting back on, more like how fast can I fix it so I CAN get back on!! I hope you heal fast and your wits settle down into more relaxed thoughts. But IF it scares you more than thrills you to ride, then perhaps you do need to step away!? Good Luck in whatever you decide!

        Hi Sam,
Sorry to hear about your crash, i am glad you walked away with road rash instead of serious damage. Road rash on your face? Was you wearing a Lid? I sold my friend a 82 suzuki gs650gl, he left the kick stand down and broke his right leg. Ouch!
I am looking for a luggage rack for my 81 special. Is there any aftermarket stuff on the bike that you want to sell (SS brake lines, fork brace, Shocks, etc?). Thanks for letting us on the list know first.

Thanks for your concern, fellas... For now, I am busy healing. If not for the percocets, I don't think that I would be walking much. After inspecting the scene and my bike... it was most definitely the kickstand. Yes, I was wearing a lid, a shorty that did it's job REAL well, so I guess I can't complain about facial scabs. In answer to the question of aftermarket stuff, the only thing that I did was to change the coils over to dyna coils, which was a huge boost, and hand paint all of my emblems so that they matched... but I probably won't be parting her for a few weeks, I need to get some other things straight, like walking and working... When I do have her parted, I will throw out a post here prior to ebaying it.

          Peace.

            Hello Sam,
Thank goodness the helment done its job. I believe in them, I have wrecked a few dozen times. I wear a full face bucket, to preserve my god-given good looks. LOL
I am interested in the Dyna Colis, i will wait till you are ready though.
I also own a 1979 Jeep CJ7 304CID, headers & duals, Hardtop & hard doors, 4 inch lift kit, etc. It is one of the best designed vehicles ever built. I have been thinking of selling mine though, I own other 4 wheel drives now. I may sell the CJ7 and use the cash to help finance my new Quad. Anyone in Ohio looking for a CJ7?

                Sam,
I might be interested Between yours and they one that been in my garage for the last 10 years I'm sure I could make a runner pretty easy. I just have to convince SWMBO that it's a smartt thing to do.it would only be the 5th one. I guess I could tell her I'm going to turn it into a business. I could rent it to John when he visits Maine. If you still have my # give me a call I'd lke to come buy and look at it at least.

I'm building a '76 Scout II. "Anything Else Is Just A Car"

345 V-8, TF727 Auto tranny, Dana 44 front and rear, Benchmark power steering 19-1 instead of original 24-1, still a lot to do....

I split my time between the XJ and the Scout. Colorado has a lot you can see from either vehicle! Some of the best places, though, are not places you would want to take a road bike...

Jerry and SWMBO at Piney lake, Colorado

I put a lot more miles on the XJ than the Scout. Both are a lot of fun.

I will take $2500.00 Firm for the CJ7. I will need the tank drained and a carb kit installed because it has been sitting a couple of years. I do not have any pictures of it yet. It has typical jeep body rot, and really needs a fiberglass tub. It is not as pretty as Sam's Jeep. It will run over 100MPH, which is insane with a 4 inch lift (ever start bouncing at 105mph? I have)
Nice Scout Jerry. I have always like scouts, but damn they are hard to find parts for. My friend use to have a Scout 2 Ralley with a 345CID V-8 and it was awesome.
