A progressive spring is wound tighter at one end than the other. The idea is that it will give on small bumps but still have some strength left for the hard bumps.

I like the suspention set up a little on the stiff side, I think the bike handles better that way.

Progressive is a brand of suspension that build springs that are designed to become more stiffer the more they are compressed. The coils are closer spaced at one end. In theory this allows a softer ride over normal bimps, but they firm up and offer maximum control over the rougher stuff. Many of my Goldwing buds swear by these systems. I have never tried them myself, so I cannot say for sure.

i know its outside this thread but there is a 72 H2 for sale on ebay new zealand. Great looking bike. $10,000US and reserve not met.
