see this. Bike looks good, what's left of it anyway. I don't even want to go into the purist custom debate. Just hate to see a midnight done this way. For 900 though there are plenty of good parts left on the bike. If I was closer to it I would grab it just for the wheels and rotors not to mention the gas tank and carbs. Funny how he talks about straight pipes and re jetting to stop the backfiring. Anyhow here is the listing https://fargo.craigslist.org/mcy/4751876138.html.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.
I see that happen SO OFTEN!!!! They take a NICE bike and hack it up to make it "theirs" and all they get done is to RUIN a nice or potentially nice bike. THEN, they think the abortion is worth just as much or even MORE when they get tired of torturing it.Greg

Its a typical example of whats been said recently, a perfectly good bike hacked up and ending up as an unfinished project for sale. Sad.
However, this one is recoverable, how many frames without title is there out there, I don't know your licensing laws too well but am I right in thinking these frames will never be used again? if so you could easily cut the back end off one and weld them back on to this frame. Any half decent repair shop will weld them up for a few $$ if you do the prep work and the dressing back. I've done these repairs to hacked frames, and repaired a hell of a lot worse.
After that the rest of the bike would restore very easily, IF the parts could be obtained.Tom

Can you lads swap frames without hassle from "the man"?
I tried here and they said "no", that's one of the reasons I had to do big repairs
Here is some I did, scroll down the page for pics, sorry I'm busy as hell working on daughters house restoration to post them properly here.

No purist
I am no purist by any stretch but have always wondered why certain types of guys "improve"bikes with certain items before tidying up what is there? How many times have you seen a car about town that is dented to hell ,primered.
barely running....but has fancy rims?..The same could be said about the bike shown in the listing..and countless others...new bars.but rusty, paint flaky upper triples..misc hackery throughout..oil leakers etc..How hard is it to buy a tube of simichrome or can of paint to polish or touch up what is already there?I am not even going to mention the mechanical aspect of things ...in my opinion that part goes without saying..Enough of my rant..78standard,79 & 80 Specials; 2 x 650 Maxims; 4 x RD350's; yz450; 2 x Honda tlr's;2x jt1 mini.

The strange thing is, a bit of research will show them that everyone gets stuck at the same spot. They see chopped Harleys that are basically a triangle from the side (tire, bars and tank, back tire) and start trying to make the XS11 rectangle look like that. Once you cut the back frame, you basically have a square and no way to get a smooth flow from bars to tank to seat to rear tire. The ass end just hangs out there, looking unfinished. Some guys have done a good job on theirs, but usually by just dropping the end a bit to keep a smooth flow.
Well, I need a source of replacement valves about every eighteen months, so maybe this misfire custom will be a good source for parts.
Stay tuned for my modification thread, "Velcro Seal for Cam Cover", to make it easier to take the top off when I mess with the ACCT and violently modify the intake valves."Time is the greatest teacher; unfortunately, it kills all of its students."
