    Where to progress, bike wise, from here?

    I don't know if getting an Xs1100 for my first bike was a bad idea... Or a good one

    As I tear it down this winter and begin to turn it in to whatever idea this is in my head, what bike should I look in to for a new daily driver? I want something newer, 1995-2005 probably, with plenty of power(at least to MATCH the xs), and under... $3500-4000

    Im keeping my xs of course. It's just going to be my long term project bike starting this winter

    Not many UJM's in the years you're looking at. What do you see yourself on? Cruiser, sportbike, adventure bike, retro, touring machine? There's a lot of stuff out there, and a lot of good choices.

    A 650 cc V Strom is a great urban assault vehicle and one that can do almost anything. You can likely find one in your price range.

        Cruiser, most definitely. I'm a big guy 6'3" 255lbs, so a bullet bike would be awkward for me lol

          If I could find a cherry XS11, that didn't need more than a set of tires and a routine oil change, I would definitely consider it.

          There's a little too many minute things about mine, otherwise I would ride it solely until the end of its time

            I'm a big fan of the 1st Gen. Honda Valkyrie ... 1520cc, 6-cylinder, eerily smooth, loads of torque - and it can't be mistaken for anything else when it's cruising down the road ...

            Honda brought it to the U.S. from 1997-2003 ... higher mileage examples can be had in your price range - lower mileage examples will, of course, be over $4,000 ... sometimes significantly over.

            Lots of parts availability and aftermarket support for the Valkyrie ...

            Maybe something to consider ...

                Another bike ??

                For $ 4000 you can get a cherry xs1100 that does not need anything. I have done it several times. Do that and you will never want anything else!!

                  I completely agree with Steve...given the price range you have set...theres no reason why you couldnt find an excellent example of an XS1100...

                    FJ1200. Put barbacks on it, and it should fit pretty well. You could also go with an ST Honda, another great bike that seems to go forever (ask motorman).

                      My mention of the Valkyrie in my earlier post was based not only on your price range, but on your stated preference for "something newer" ...

                        Check into the early to mid 2000's Victory Kingpin or Vegas. Very reliable, handle very well, and you can find them between 4-5000.

                          The best thing to do is try riding several bikes to see what you like.

                          I have always looked at price first and usually bought a non running bike (I can get more that way) but I'm thinking that you want something that you don't need to work on much other than routine maintenance on. Sometimes you can find those in the older (and less expensive) range too. I personally like the Venture V4 smooth with good power, but again try multiple bikes out see if you like the feel.

                            FWIW, Last summer I grabbed a 2002 V-Star 1100 in immaculate condition with 6k miles for $3k. I rode it for 6k miles and sold it last week for $3k. I'm 6'1" 260 and the Vstar was very smooth and forgiving. A very impressive bike. Most of my riding was 2 up either girlfriend or daughter. No problems, great mileage. The other bikes posted here would work as well. Just throwing in my .02
