I am looking for a windshield for my '81 Special and I have found a couple that look interesting. They are both made by National Cylcle and are known as the Plexistar 2 (N8332) and the Plexifairing 3 (N8613). Has anyone used either one of these? Can you make a recomendation?

    Windshield

    Hi Bill,
I currently have a Plexi star 2 on my 81 special. It works ok...
It took some experimenting to find the right height and angle to minimize the the turbulence.
I found that raising it up about as high as possible (the being tall thing) and keeping it fairly straight up and down (slightly angled)
resulted in the least amount of turbulence about the helmet.
The only drawback is that raising it up high is it leaves a fairly large gap above the guages that lets quite a bit of air thru ...(good in summer bad in spring.)
I am trying to come up with a way to make some kind of skirt to attach to the bottom to fix this...
Over all it works pretty well and the sides are wide enough to protect your hands..
    Hope this helps

          Windsheild

I recently put a shield on my 79 special Plexifairing 3 but you will notice that they don't make one for the XS1100 so I ordered one for the XS850 and it fit with out any modifications. Work very fine too.

I recently installed a National F15-Touring windshield on my XS850G. I don't need much protection from the cold here in FL, but I wanted something big enough to spare me the bugs. Plus I did not want something wider than the mirrors as I pull the binke in the lanai at night, 36" door opening is tight...and I like the look of the rounded shield. Installed with no problems. See a dealer pix below, scroll down to the blue Kawa, I may have one of my XS lying around for later...

Thanks for the info. I bought a Plexistar2 from MAW and expect it to be here today. I was going to buy the Plexifairing III, but they talked me out of it. I'll post when I get it mounted and tested.
