  • Scored a XS850 Special

I've noticed a few months ago on my drive to work a XS appeared to be pulled out of this fellers garage and left outside as if it was intentionally being punished. From a distance it looked like the guy might have been trying to work on it at first as some parts were on the ground. I pulled in one day to inquire about it and the guys son in law told me it was his FIL's and he wasn't sure if it was for sale but he thought he would probably sell it. I told him I wouldn't be interested if it wasn't an 1100 and not to bother getting a number I just wanted to have a quick look. So when I got closer I confirmed it was a tripe and didn't really give much thought to it and decided I'd go about my business. About a mile down the road and I started to kick myself for not getting the guys number.

Well, today I decided to stop in and ask again about it because I figured if nothing else Id like the round head light and maybe my dad would like the final drive to do the mod... Turns out the guy took it on trade as someone owed him money and he was considering scrapping it . He's got the title and we worked out a deal, $50 and a case of beer. I will go pick it up next week and post a picture. Unfortunately he trashed the whole seat because he said it was cracked and ripped but otherwise it looks like a complete bike.

Even with the trashed seat, sounds like the price was right. What kind of beer?

If you need a seat pan I've got one I don't need ? Just the pan, rubber cushions under the seat gone, foam gone. The latch is there, it's from an 80SG 850.

Sounds like you scored a cool ride. I have no experiences with the Yamaha triples...for some reason I totally overlooked them all these years...Look forward to seeing some pics...and your progress on it...

Wade for $50 plus shipping I can send you a very nice, never mounted 750/850 seat with gel cushion built in, air bladder and adjustable backrest for driver or passenger. I bought it on fleaBay for $200 in my early XS11 years thinkng it would fit and its been waiting on a shelf for a new owner. I'd just like to see it get used so if fifty is too much let me know.

BTW save old seat for hinges as this one has none (never mounted by me - I am guessing it may have been at some point?). Backrest vinyl could be reglued but its useable as is.

Wow congratulations WMarshy! Unbelievable deal for a fun project.

BTW a six pack of beer was part of the $450 purchase price of my XS1100SF. But it was only Budweiser.

I love my two XS750 Specials. It be so hard to decide which one to part with next Spring, as I have loved them both into reasonable condition, but 3 bikes is more than I can rationalize.

Thanks guys. Todays pay day and I will be picking up the beer and the bike.

Pictures are sure to follow. Im interested to hear how the 3 banger sounds. Anyone have a pipe for it they want to get rid of?

                            Big disappointment

Unfortunately the guy sold the bike before I could get him the money... Even though he said I had nothing to worry about and it wasn't going any where... I hate liars. Just hope someone was going to do something constructive with it. The good news is I have a case of beer now for my shop fridge.

The other good news is I've found a mostly complete a 80 SG for papers that I might be able to swipe for the same or a little more. I'll be calling that guy this weekend.

Likely he told a friend about unloading it and they offered him more $$.
