  • Any TomTom Rider users?

Looking for a better alternative to the Garmin Zumo.
Not a fan of Basecamp trip planning.

Wondered if anyone has experience with the TomTom Rider, and can give their opinions?
    Thanks.

      Wow, that figures, doesn't it?

I've seen them listed on Ebay, the listings say they're new units, too.

I'd like to have a Zumo 550, but they're getting to be old now, and Garmin's discontinued them as well.

Thought about a 665 LM or the new 590LM, but the whole Basecamp approach to planning routes on your pc doesn't look like the way to go for me, for many reasons.

Why they got away from the viapoint method I'm not sure. It wasn't difficult.

And the cost... Holy cow... Anywhere from $650-$1000.... That's insane.

I had noticed the TomTom Riders going new for $359, which is better on the budget... Still high though. But doable, as long as they work as advertised.
      But that's the $1000 question...

So, thought I'd take a poll and see if anyone has tried them out.
Thanks, Phil. I appreciate the info.

I think could be quite happily lost for a long time with $650 to $1000.

Can't speak to motorcycle specific units but my TomTom Start 45 Lifetime Maps (SO worth it) and Lifetime Traffic Updates is the most awesome compact GPS I've ever used. You can pick it up for 99 bucks or cheaper if you look around and you can get a handlebar mount for it with some diligent looking. I love the Traffic Update part, it advises you of traffic problems and offers you alternative routes. I get a notice of a new map about every 4-6 months and it updates my Tomtom when I hook itup to my computer. I friggin' love it.
