  • Tips for Finding a Machine Shop to do Work In

I've been hunting around CT since I moved out here to the east coast and it seems like they really don't have any of the "rent-a-factory" businesses that I could find in Michigan. I'm needing to do some basic fabrication (milling, welding, etc) but I'm not really in a position to buy a full setup like I had before I moved.

Anyone familiar with this area of the country know what's going to be my best option for finding some place that will come in and rent/use their machinery? I'm not talking about half a million dollar CNC or anything like that just basic fabrication tools that the normal person doesn't really keep in their garage. I've asked around the local bike shops and none of them know anywhere that I could do this so it might be that I'm SOL unless I find someone who has some of these things in an old workshop that would let me use them on the weekends.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would get in-contact with the local community college and see what they'd be willing to do for you. You may have to pay a fee, but like up here in Flint, the College offers the "Fab Lab" offering carte blanche on everything!
