I found one on eBay for a 1980 XS1100.
The bike it's going on is a 79 XS1100SF.

Is this a match or should I not bid on it?

Are the top attaching points slots or round holes? My 80 SG had the round attachments, and the 78E had the slots. They won't interchange. Buy it anyway. It will be good to use as a trade. $15 is a good deal. I recently paid $60 for one on my 80SG.

theres also a guy on eBay that has a buttload of tank/sidecover combos that I think he paints to order that have gone from $150-300. I'm thinking maybe to talk to him and just get a new set. His stuff looks pretty good.

John is correct. According to the parts fiche on the Yamaha site, the left side cover for the 80 Standard is different from 79 Special.

Both of my 79's have the slotted side covers.

I have a 79 F and a 79 SF. Both of my covers are the same, except for the emblems. The one pictured is a F (standard). The SF will say XS eleven special on the side.
