  • New to xs11.

Hi everyone, I've been browsing these forums for quite awhile and finally decided to register. I picked up my xs11 special about a year ago for about $250 and it was in serious need of repair.

When I first picked her up.

She was in pretty rough shape, had about 10 different coats of paint, blown rear shocks off of some other bike, front forks had a serious air leak, the wiring harness looked liked it was chewed through by rats, no front brakes, no lights, pretty much nothing worked, she didn't even run. At least she came with a macs 4-1 .

I had initially done a hack job on the harness just to get her to fire and cleaned the carbs/ eliminated the octo valve which didn't even work in the first place. but she did run, took me about 4 hours and alot of cursing but she fired up, didn't run very well but at least there was hope.

Over the course of about 5 months I've redone the entire harness by hand, new connectors new wires, soldered and heat shrunk, eliminated things like the RLU and headlight relay. Rebuilt the front and rear calipers, new rear progressive shocks, rebuilt the carbs, petcocks, new fork seals, replaced the original seat with a single rider cafe seat from motorcycle seats direct. rewired the pickup coils, stripped all ten coats of paint off, thing had been painted black 4 separate times, kawasaki green, and at one time a sand textured/colored paint job, I seriously would like to have met the guy who did that one .

Added new right controls from a ducati 1098 since the original killswitch/starter button were beyond repair which also meant i had to change over to a different throttle so i used one from an older triumph., and the ducati controls had very similar wiring right down to having nearly the same wire colors/ locations. the left headlight controls have begun to show their age with the turn signal switch breaking on me last night, so i have plans on running the headlight switches from a ducati 1098 as well.

Still have alot more plans for her but this is my xs11 as she is today.

I need to repaint the tank as initially after stripping off the old paint i had shot it with rustolium to keep it from rusting until i had made up my mind on what paint i wanted for the bike, but while remounting the master cylinder after rebuilding it this weekend brake fluid spilled all over the tank and ate the paint off.

Maier cafe fairing i had gotten used off of ebay.

I'll be posting alot more pictures when she's finished, but for now, Hello from florida!
