Inititiation rites?

I've registered, logged in and started my first thread so I'm ready to jump into the pool. (Oh yeah, I just bought a '79 XS11F Standard! ) I've been lurking around for a bit getting a feel for this place and I'm ready to stand up and be counted.

I just brought my scooter home this week and I'm making my list of what to do first. Here's a "before" photo:



Obviously, a new seat cover is a priority. (My butt doesn't like the feel of duct tape.) Overall, it's in pretty good shape...just cleaning and detailing with some maintenance along the way. I'm looking forward to being part of this forum and learning a lot from you folks about my bike.

Thanks for the welcome! Actually, that pic was taken by the previous owner at his place. I'm planning on keeping it out of the bushes!

I have a 4 day gas-tank party so far... Maybe it's gonna be ready for painting by tommorrow...
Half a kilo of goo on it, and it still isn't straight... was banged on the right side really bad by one of the POs...

Nice bike, welcome to XS11 ownership & this Forum. JP & the Moderators (gary g, topcat, Jerry, etc) do a first rate job of keeping this place special to al that own or has owned the XS1100. This website is an endless resource for these fine machines. Read all the tech and maintence sections, the information contained there is priceless.

Thanks for the welcome! I absolutely love this forum. When I bought my XS, I really had no idea how much love exists for these machines. And imagine my surprise when I learned that I drive past XS11 Heaven on a daily basis! (I work about 3 blocks from Merriam Cycle.) My XS needs some TLC before getting out, but I've learned so much from the XSives on this forum it's become a daily stop for me. I'm in listening and learning mode right now, but I'll post more when I have something to say!

If you see a guy dragging his feet on a XS 1100 (while going 100+ mph) that will be BatMan (Jason)
All those bikes you see getting out of the way...will be the rest of us...

And the ONE thing you should always mumble to yourself (while working on or restoring your XS 1100)is:
This is the LAST (ASAIN) motorcycle designed & engineered to last 50 years!!! (NO KIDDING) ask Bill down at Merriam...

But in any case I know PERSONALLY of two XS 1100s with OVER 100,000 miles on them!!!
So if we can all live that long...the machine certainly will!!
