  • Big Brother is watching!!

So this link is to a rather long video clip taken from an aircraft with a new video camera the CHP (California Highway Patrol) is using. After seeing the young mans reaction to his fine, I think he may not live a long life!

    Hi Ray!
Wow, I had heard California allowed lane splitting...but that's rediculous, huh?

I'm amazed how long it took to get to him!

I kept thinking at any second a CHP would pull him over...

If not for that chopper, he would have completely gotten away with the whole thing.

I agree with ya, if he keeps riding like that, they'll be scraping up what's left of him soon. Bad part would be the inocents he involves in his stupidity.

I saw a picture a while back of some kid with his head impaled through the back door of a semi trailer. He slammed into it going over 130, they estimated.
The truck was travelling down the road at highway speed at the time, same direction.
He had no shoes left on, and was dragged like that for several miles, since the trucker didn't know. Another driver pulled him over to tell him he had a dead guy stuck in the back of his trailer... Geesh!

120 MPH?! I couldn't go any faster, erm, I mean, that's terrible! Terrible!

Anyway, it's called "Lane Sharing" for a reason: you have to be polite!

Even if (especially if!) the cagers decide not to share their space with you, which is their right too BTW, there's a 10 MPH speed differential limit and (guestimating from the video) 50 MPH and accelerating! wheelies through a school zone are right out!

It's not just the choppers in the air, in Virginia I did work for a company and we did cameras and system for the I81 corridor Roanoke area where they warn you about excessive fines for speed. They have pulled trucks over and charged drivers for drining and driving because the clarity of the picture threw the windshield makes it easy to tell the brand of beer. All those tall poles with what looks like 4 to 5 lights are actually cameras and there are people watching and recording everthing for miles. Then they have cell towers that really reach the distant areas. DC area has same thing mainly to monitor everything to do with trucks but pop a wheelie there a just see.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

          here's one just as bad

The guy on the bike was obviously an idiot,
but have to wonder how much$ was spent tracking him down?
There was a guy here that flipped off a cop and they got the helicopter out and ticketed him , the judge threw it out ....first amendment rights.
I read recently that in Florida the projected revenue from red light cameras were falling short of projections and so they shortened the length of the yellow,Here in Co if your front tires touch the white line you get a ticket.
Seems to be a bit out of control.
It appears that the whole camera thing here may go the way of the dodo bird.
I am sure they will come up with a new way to collect revenue

They already have the tools. EZ-Pass tags the time, just run a report of time and distance and you're caught.

I'm just waiting to get my speeding ticket by mail.

ever see in urban area distance to in mins??? Well they track you by your cell phone......I have heard but not seen that on the NJ TPK you could be ticketed for speeding ...the time in between taking a ticket at the toll plaza and paying the fare at the exit toll plaza can be calculated easily enough...Though in 35 yrs there i never saw this...its only a matter of time....And if you think we have it bad...Try riding in England or Ireland...they have cameras everywhere

                    That's pretty clever!
Oklahoma's trending away from guardrails these days, though.

Oh, they'll figure out something, I'm sure. <laughing>

Those cable barricades freaked me out the first time I saw one. I was in heavy but high-speed traffic and there was no way to get away from it! It was so much like riding next to an industrial-strength cheese slicer with cars and trucks as multi-ton presses that I had to get off the freeway and stop shaking before I could ride any further. I stayed in the right-hand lane and away from the slicer; still do, I hate those things!

I wish they'd outlaw them too! But, seriously, it's got to be a subliminal mental perception kind thing because it can't be any worse getting sliced than it is to get diced.

Around here they plant honeysuckle on the galvanized chain link medians as a decorative light barrier for oncoming traffic and so that you'll smell pretty after you and your bike get extruded like PlayDoh'd through the fence.

                              chain link fences

used to see chain link near motocross tracks,
we gave them a wide berth to avoid the "cheese grater syndrome"
Talking to a traffic engineer recently and was told that if the camera at traffic signals determined you were going too fast the light would automatically turn red.....
