  • Another Antique XS110 Lives Again

It is now on the road. Did the fork seals yesterday. Still need a crank case breather hose but I think it will be fine to ride in fair weather

I want a '78 soooooo bad. As long as it had a good tank and side covers I'd even take it non-running...

78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]
79 F - gas tank refurb, headgasket change, straight pipes, late model carbs, virago lowering shocks, special headlight and gauges, TC fuse block, GSXR-1100 carbs (WIP)

He used paint stripper on the wheels. I'll paint them and polish the trim later. They mixed parts off of a special. Most didn't work like the left hand controls and some other stuff. I did have lots of spare parts that I used to save money.

I think if the previous owner took it to a bike shop and the shop knew what they were doing (very doubtful) he would of had a bill for $2,300.00 parts and labor based on the extremely high prices from Merriam Cycle.

My labor based on $30.00 an hour would of been $1,000.00 alone. eBay parts were $650.00. Last time I buy a bike at night when getting dark. LOL

With that round headlight, it resembles a Suzuki GS too much. Crazy Steve had it right with the looks of a square headlight.

I like the special parts...the only thing i dont like is the looks of that Jardine muffler. I know Bob Jones used these exhausts and i even bought the last one Karla had. I installed it on my XJ1100...it did sound good but it is a cheap exhaust. Where the headers join with the collector it just fits into each other but theres no way to actually seal the space between them...plus you will have to repaint those headers as the paint that comes on there will just burn off in a few hundred miles leaving the pipes grey and exposed to rusting.
Still Winterhawk...this isnt a bad buy at all...hope you enjoy it...come to the SE rally at the iron horse next sept...there will be a lot of Bob Jones bikes there...and the riding isnt bad either
As for the rims they look pretty good ...I never really cared for the black paint on them...i had an '81 Special Streetfighter that had the rims media blasted down to the bare aluminum and left that way...they looked bitchin'...

The exhaust is junk. Anybody have an exhaust system to fit my 1978? I want the square headlight if anybody has one or wants a round one to trade.

Have to go back up into the attic. I thought that I had another square bucket. My last 1978 XS1100 I changed the headlight to one I think off of one of my XJ650LJ Seca Turbo's to put a high output bulb in it.

I've put about 300 miles on it. Took it up to 110mph yesterday and was still pulling strong. The wind was causing the bike to buffet so backed off. Not going to do that again as it's not safe. This is the best and smoothest bike I have ever rode. The only bike that comes close is the Limie Accent and I had countless hours in jetting and tuning that bike. Actually that's the bike that made me want an XS1100 after riding it. LOL

Time to start dressing it up, polish, paint and detailing now that the mechanical is near perfect ( Starter clutch still needs done )

FWIW, I prefer the appearance of the round headlight. It might go well with some slightly smaller signal lights. Lovely bike!

High five on the Limie Accent

Today I got 38.77mpg and that is with some testing at high speeds. Unreal, what an awesome machine it turned out to be.

Just curious if it's stock jetting for those mpg's?

Stock jetting, floats are at 25mm, fuel screws between 1.5~2.0 turns. My other 1978 never got over 32mpg. This one got 39.05mpg on my Android fuel app and 38,77mpg on the calculator. Several miles were in 5th gear at 45mph. I'll run another tank combined highway / city and see. Sounds too good to be true.

BP fuel 93 octane, temp 65 deg low humidity.
