    I've not heard of a mixture screw breaking in the later carbs. It was an issue with the 78 - 79 though.

    Start the settings at 1 1/2 - 2 turns and adjust them individually when you get the engine running and up to operating temperature.

      Don't be surprised if the idle-mix screws end up out in the 3 1/2 turn range on the later model BS34's used on the 80 thru XJ models.
