Must be high water Duwayne from all the snow, seems you have a lot of suckers hooked on this thread.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Yeah, hook a chain drive up to that baby and drop it to the floor and it'll be a bitchin' scoot....

Add a jack shaft and fit a 250 wide tire. You may have to forego the Sportster fender for that one.

In the condition that its in, I'm afraid I have only one suggestion to make it anywhere near fast or cool...."Trike conversion", (preferably home built as conversion kits are just the mans way of keeping you down and broke.).

A plywood body kit would have that thing ready for Bonnieville speed testing in no time...(Bonnieville Alberta....not the salt flats)

          Nice find.

Find yourself a 650 they work better for that with the chain. it's to nice to chop
and it will have more power than than you can hold your ass to on one of those

it's funny to see all those people that post here that don't know you telling you to NOT molest that bike.

I'm so jealous, wherever did you find that ride in VA?

BTW I saw some stock MNS exhuasts on Ebay.

May be too much for what they are, but I thought you might be interested.

Hope you get that beauty up and running for the rally.

Is it an 80 or 81?
the 81's has swirly wheels and the circle around the alt cover, but had a funny rear caliper bracket.
In the pic, it looks like an 80 with 81 alt cover.

Because we know that anyone who scored a bike in that shape would be insane to do anything but get it back to spec, or would be yanking our collective chain with the hacksaw talk. So, we gave a dose of pseudo-support and backed away slowly.....

                            Hi dpotter,
that's a great plan but it looks like a load of work to get that bike from where it's at to where you need it to be.
All that cuttin' and grindin' and hammerin' and weldin' an' such; never mind the cost of all those chrome plated bolt-on doodads from the Choppers-R-us catalog.
Tell you what, rather than going to all that effort and expense, and at your age, too, PM me your postal addy and I'll mail you a cat o' nine tails so you can whip yourself until you feel better.
