Nothing really Mike. They are just heavier and kind of a PITA compared to tubeless. The rear rim is pretty easy to convert to tubeless but the front tubeless rim really doesn't have a lip on the inside to hold the bead from breaking seal if the tire gets low.

And, you can't just plug them to get down the road in an emergency.

        Still Available?

Can you use the tubeless tire with a tube or do you need to buy a tire specifically for a tube?

This is where we usually get our tires. Poke around in here and see what you can find. The tubeless tire might build up too much heat with a tube in it.

If you have some of that lime green paint mixed up and you have the patience you could paint up a tubeless rim.

I'm not absolutely sure that Bob didn't put a tubeless front on there. The rim will be marked "suitable for use wit tubeless tires". You might make sure and check with Tod.

              Mike,

Use a tubeless tire. Putting a tube in it lowers the speed rating, but not enough to make a difference to you. No worries.

I've run those tube type rims without a tube for the last 10 years, no problems so far. <knock> There is so very little difference between the two types of front rims. There is really no difference on the rear 17's except for the rim lock holes.

                    Ummm... Yes? lol

Actually it's a target fixation problem I've seemed to acquired later in life. In those "Oh crap" moments, I've started to focus on where I'm headed instead of where I WANT to head. It's been the cause of every wreck I've had in recent years. My opinion is that it was also Greg's problem recently. So... I just ride at speeds comfortable enough to me where I don't get those "Oh crap" moments now.

That means.. Target fixation caused by old age and senility, but wisdom enough to recognize there's a problem? lol.

Yeah, the last second or so I fixated on the edge of the road but I've thought and thought about it and I just can't recall getting that close to the edge.

I just flat lost concentration. Too comfortable I guess.

You haven't slowed down that much my friend. When you and Ivan get together there is no chance I can keep up and I don't want to. When I was riding behind you and Gary you 2 were pretty much constantly 1/4 to 1/2 mile ahead of me. That's why I let TC and then Earl go ahead of me. I thought maybe I was holding them up.

Well.. It's not like I'm ready for a trike Goldwing or anything... yet. My comfortable riding pace would probably still scare the crap out of a lot of people, but it's slowed down enough for me that I have time to actually think a bit about situations, not just react with one shot/one guess at things, living out on the edge and gobbling up big doses of adrenaline like a crack addict. When Bob talked of me keeping up with that Connie in Colorado, it was the other way around. That's why he (Maximan) was seeing my back tire do what it was doing, and we were on roads with thousand+ foot drops and no guard rails. And Maximan was no slouch rider. He's got lots of track time in.

So, I've decided to slow it down a bit and stick around a while to irritate you fine folks a bit longer.

It's hard owning a 'collection'. Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that these bikes were meant to be ridden, not just parked and admired. And unless you're planning on having a museum, even benign neglect is still neglect.

Tod, I feel your angst. And fully agree with your decision and the way you went about it; you're lucky to find a buyer who 'gets it'. Mike, good luck with your 'new' bike!

Just askin' 'cuz I don't know...a tubeless rim would be easy to acquire, no? Is the issue keeping it Bob-esque, or having to paint the rim? I'd hate to see a bike rot from just sitting when several guys put a lot of effort into making it go. That said, my enthusiasm for taking on big repair projects wanes with each passing year....
