Marty posted a pic of the Limey Accent bike. Not sure if it is indeed Marty's. Could someone please tell the story of that bike? Build thread? Mods?

Okay, I do see that Jeremy (R.I.P.) had one, but I also see that Todd has one in his sig.

It was a Bob Jones build. Bob dies several years ago. Jeremy bought it from Bob's widow Karla. Jeremy died when a car pulled out in front of him a couple years back and then Tod bought the bike from Jeremy's widow.

It is a one of a kind bike!

Yeah, I've been trying to get Tod to service that bike and ride it now and then but he won't. It would be nice to see it on the road again.

Jeremy brought it to Arkansas once before he died. It's pretty quick when it's running right.

YES TOD PLEASE SERVICE THE BIKE!!!lol I love that bike and think it needs to be on the road. I talked to tod in a message about it once, it didn't need much to be back on the road as I recall. It is a beautiful bike and of course its quick, it was bob jones's bike. I like all of bobs builds I've seen.

I don't think it's any quicker than my 81 Special. It sounds cooler, but the thing I liked most about it was riding with Jeremy, it consistently got 42-44mpg. Of course, Jeremy weighed @ 150lbs soaking wet.

The biggest hold back is the tubed tires. I don't trust them and those specially painted rims aren't ones you want to be trying to change the tube on the side of the road with metal spoons scratching them up. The other thing is me... I've calmed down quite a bit in the last year or two of riding. I know there's things on that Limie bike that couldn't be replaced if I ever laid it down, and there's a lot of sentimentality in it. I'm starting to get to where I don't feel like I have to race everyone off the line or take corners at least 30 over the posted speed.

And finally.. It's kind of a museum piece. It's only got 8k miles on it. Kind of hate to go putting a bunch on it. I wish all the rallies weren't a thousand miles away. I fire it up and ride it around the block and such, but the 20+ year old tires haven't gotten to freeway speeds in a while.

AND... I just got back from Dallas tonight with another fixer-upper XJ to work on this winter. It's going to need a LOT of work. Guess I need to add another to the ol' signature...

Didn't mean to start that rally Todd, my apologies. I totally dig your feelings on the bike. I have a few that I'll probs never put on the highway again due to not wanting to lay it down. I just think it's a really cool bike, and wanted to know the history of the build. It woulda been cool to see a thread on that bike.

I agree with you tod, it is a very unique bike and would be terrible to mess it up. I would love to see it in person though. It would be cool knowing you had a one of a kind build That was built by a professional.

                    Hey Tod,

Welcome to my mindset regarding my bike. Granted, my Godzilla isn't any kind of museum piece, but with the rarity of parts, the existence of 60k+ miles on my bottom end, but only 16k on my topend bigbore rebuild, and the unnecessary wear and tear of "daily commuting" riding, is why I trailer it and only get to put a few thousand miles a year on mine if that!

I've got another bike worth of parts that I could put together if I wanted to, but both right now a shortage of funds, and that I wouldn't COMMUTE with it anyways because the local cagers are insanely incompetent so it's too dangerous to be putting myself out there in their "targets" on a daily basis!

The only thing I would add to the discussion is that the worse "wear" I see on the bikes I work on is the results of them sitting un used. Rubber parts dry rot regardless of indoor or out storage when they do not get worked and lubricated. Grease in bearings turns to a solid goo from lack of being worked and turned.

Now, if you fire the bike up and ride a few miles every couple weeks I am sure it is fine.

I'm with Don on that one...anything older, whether it's a car or a bike deteriorates quicker if its sitting unused...that's why I'm riding my bike whenever I can
                        that's my 2 cents

It gets fired up regularly and ridden around the block. Just did yesterday as a matter of fact, though I have noticed the front brake is starting to hang a little. Just another thing on my ever expanding to-do list..

                            Tod,
You CAN mount tubeless tires on the rims. The rear would need the two holes for the locks sealed, but that should be easy. As long as you are not trying to catch a 'Busa, you should be able to ride many miles with no problems. I and Ed HAVE both run tubeless on the "tube" rims, and not had any issues.
Take the wheels to a good shop, and they can change tires without scratching the paint. Just my $0.02
