Thanks for all the positive words fellas! It really was a trip I'll remember forever. Coincidentally, the girl I met and her friend should be driving through my town late next month, so I'll get to see her again and hear all about their adventures in their travels as well.

Well done, and well written, 8Spade. My son is 30, and has been living a life of adventure for the past 2 1/2 years. He has been all over the world on tour, and I'd say you found a fair amount of adventure in a short time in the good old USA. Life is full of strange events, and one never knows where the next adventure will lead us. I think someone posted the old cliche' , when one door closes, another one will open.
