  • Lurkers

3 members and 27 guests Most users ever online was 413, 06-23-2009 at 10:41 PM.

This is why I always try to defend any posts as the lurkers are amongst us. A 9 to 1 ratio of lurkers or the better part of it. Sunday evening after some have had issues with their XS11's. I have seen far more than this number of lurkers online but this is the average.
This is why I always say that posts need to be clear, decisive and to the point. I have made a few mistakes for sure. and I hope they searched better and found better answers.
We all think that there is just us who respond to questions but at any time one can check and see how many may be reading our replies.
I had a lurker phone me and buy parts today. Hate that he is a lurker but he does what he likes. Bought a bike from me too previously. I tried to get him to join in the fun but he prefers not too.
Guess my point is that we all must look out for the guy who will not participate but may take our advice to the bank.
I wish to invite any who lurk on the site to join in the fun. You will find far more info and have answers quickly if you do so.
Membership has it's own reasons to participate and they will become apparent quickly.
Please join us and enjoy fully this site! The advantages to being a member far out weigh lurking! Come one and all!

      Stupid Site Tricks

Some of the Guest counts are from the site timing out Member sessions from inactivity. I don't know what the exact time value is but if you don't 'do' something in a certain period of time the site will 'demote' your session, removing your Member name from the active list and, I believe, stashing it in the Guest locker.

If you want to try it out, just log on to the site and read some threads. Without logging off, go do something else for a while like rotate the spark plugs to switch their polarity so the electrodes and ground straps will wear evenly in the wasted spark system... or something....

Are you back? Already? Did you put the spark plugs back in the correct order as you rotated them? You're sure? Your bike won't run right if you put one of the spark plugs back in the wrong cylinder because the polarity wouldn't be properly inverted.

Okay, on your head be it then!

Fire up a different browser and just go to this site and bring up the Forum as a Guest without logging on. Your Member name will be gone from the Member list and you won't be able to 'see' it but your logged-on-but-inactive session will be counted as a Guest.

With the inactive browser, click on almost anything on the site or just hit Refresh and you'll get dragged back out of the Guest locker.

Hit Refresh in the browser you're using for your Guest session and you'll see that your Member name has reappeared on the Member list and (most likely) the Guest count has decreased by one.

Wasn't that fun? How did the spark plugs look?
