  • The Search for Twisties in Toano 7/6 or 7/7

Okay, it's time again for the Tidewater Chapter of the XS11's to go for another ride!
I figure we'll start just north of Williamsburg and ride around until we either get lost or need gas. Maybe this will be an all day thing.

I did do a little google map trail, but that may change:
    https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...533db062&msa=0

So for TC, Nightengale, CPMaynard, KeithH, 81Yamadog, greengoon3 and sheppajj,
    It's time to RIDE!
(oh and any others that might want to join in too.)
We had fun a few weeks ago down in Pungo:

The only problem Jeff, is that 1/2 the time not all of the bikes are up and running.
But, yeah, it is nice to have some others locally to help diagnose and help fix issues.

        Hey George,

Well, the 5 day forecast shows just partly cloudy for Saturday and Sunday, but a little warmer on Sunday. And the traffic coming back this way gets crazy on Sunday PM, so I vote for Saturday the 6th.

Where will we be meeting to get together?? John/Nightengale's place is in Hampton, might be a good starting point?? Did you send PM's to the "gang" to invite and inform them of the plans?! Have any of them responded to you via PM??

I would agree about the Sunday traffic, but that should be leaving the area and not so much on the back roads.
Charles has duty on Saturday, so Sunday works for him.
I didn't send any PMs out yet, probably will today.

Maybe John's house would a better meeting/start place. Most of us know where he lives.

PM sent to the locals that I know are registered here on the site.
(see list above) I can't seem to remember who it was that had the rescued yard find bike that lives up there in Toano.

If any of you that live a little further out (like DPotter) that want to come join us, please PM either me or TC.

If there are any of you lurkers out there that haven't registered yet, please do so you can join in on this little group ride.

              Route info

Seeing how the Pungo ride seemed like a half day, TC suggested that the Toano run be a full day with a lunch stop, etc.
              So, for the first leg:
Start at John's house, up US-17 to Yorktown, Colonial PKWY thru Williamsburg to Jamestown, North up Rt-614 and around Little Creek Resevoir thru Toano then cross over I-64 and a few back roads up to West Point for the first gas stop and maybe lunch. (about 90miles)
Here's a link to the google map route: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...08960968&msa=0

For the rest, I'm thinking of heading up Rt-249 (New Kent Hwy) toward Richmond with a few back road off shoots, then circle around and come back south down Rt-5 (John Tyler Memorial HWY) with a few more back road off shoots too.

I'll update the map in google as I make more plans today, so the link should be the entire thing.

                Update

                Sunday it is!
We're meeting at John's (Nightengale) at 9:30 with a 10:00 departure for our first leg northward.
So far, it's me, TC, John, Charles (CPmaynard1980), and Jonathan (sheppajj).
Keith (keithH) is a maybe as of right now.
I haven't finalized the complete route yet, I'm gonna try working on it some more Sat.
There's a gas station just down the road from John's, so we can top off our tanks there.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I have only ridden with 2 people. Xsivebiker and his brother in law and it was great fun. I sure wish I was closer to you guys. I will be going to VA Beach next year so maybe we could take a spin then. Have fun and be safe.

Just reporting in, we rode about 200 miles today, a bit warm, but still enjoyable while moving. Made it back home safely. Will post some photos later. Thanks to George for again leading the way in this adventure of tidewater. Good to see many of the locals I had already met, as well as meeting Dennis/Yamadog81.

That was a fun long ride. Although I am sad to report an epic fail on the 850. From johns house I logged 207 miles for the bike to leave me on the side of the road on the last 15 miles. lol

I was headed home riding with John and Dennis and the bike started freaking out and then shut off and wouldnt start back up. No electricity at all. I had to call the X to go get my truck and rescue me. lol. Thanks for John and Dennis for hanging out on the side of the road with me.

                        Damn Charles, that sucked.
I wish I would have paid a bit more attention to your issue and maybe not pushed us so hard, maybe you could have made it all the way back.

As for me, I walked in the door, thru the shower and back out the door with the wife for Bingo, sorry to say, no winnings for me tonight. At least I'm not in the dog house for being later than I was.

It was a fun ride, with a few mis-turns, but overall I think it was a success.
It was good to meet Rich and have him meet all of us too.

I think TC (or maybe Keith) can plan the next one out there in the smithfield/surry area.
