My lawnmower has a 20hp Kohler Command 90* V-twin Motor with OHV and hydraulic lifters. Today cleaned the deck the lazy way by lifting the front of the machin (its a walk-behind) and when I started it there was a strong valve noise. It was odd to me because it developed after I cleaned the deck... I ran the machine for 15-20 minutes and it went away... Is it possible the lifter was starved for oil causing the noise? Shpuld I have the let the machine sit level for a little while before starting it up? I dont havemuch experience with these engines or hydraulic lifters in general, any help is appreciated I dont want to do any damage...

It is possible I suppose. I would say let it sit a few hours, start it again and see if the noise appears again. If not, you are probably correct, and know next time to find a new way to clean the deck.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

The noise did go away while it was running, couldnt tell exactly when b/c my ear muffs were on but I checked after about 10 minutes or run time and it was gone. I probably should of let it sit a while after the cleaning but the thought poped in my head after I started it...
Wasnt sure if anyone heard if hydraulic lifters making noise like that ...'79 XS11 F

ooh, there's posh! Our lawn mower has a side valve single that looks like it was designed by a blacksmith in 1922.
Seriously though, a lawn mower has to be built to thrive on operator neglect and misuse so I doubt a mechanically apt person like yourself could hurt it if you tried.Fred Hill, S'toon
