  • Riding temps

here have hit a level that won't find me riding much locally anyways. 104 here in western Colo. today. Expecting more of the same for the weekend too. Talked to my son in Tuscon today, and their lookin' at 115 today! Only saving grace is no humidity. Right now, i'm likin' inside and 70 degrees. Wonderin' what some of you central and southern riders are experiencing for temps now?

Low 90's and humid, SE Florida. I ride in the evenings before dark, much more tolerable. Only ride during the hot day if I need to go do a job or run an errand.

      Temps in (Georgia) the South

Here in Georgia this week we have seen mid to upper 80s. This will get worse before it gets better. And the humidity is at +60%. But hey, that's normal for us.
So you either get used to it or you go inside.

I have had left coast friends fly to here during the summer. When they would step off of the plane, they practically passed out from the heat/humidity combination. I guess it is all about what you are used to.

As far as riding, you can ride for most (if not all) of the year around here. That's a good thing.

It was about 100º here today but it's supposed to cool down to the mid 80s next week.

trbig and I took off to The Lost Rally a couple of years ago and it was 115º ambient but on the asphalt it was at 125º. It was miserable until we got north of Missouri.

It was kinda like riding through a blast furnace.

I figure when we leave july 19th for the 6K West US ride its gonna be up thru the roof. Plan to use evaporative neck bandanas and such to combat the heat. And carry ice in the Camelbacks....

Drink LOTS of water John because when your riding in the heat you don't realize how much your sweating and you can get dehydrated really easy.

I ALWAYS have a bottle of water with me on the highway. Even hot water is better than no water.

Been close to 100 around here this week, much hotter than normal. But, storms movin through so it should be low 80s next week, upper 70s this weekend. I rode a few time sduring the week and got hot and dehydrated from it. No fun really. Just got back from about 40 minute ride on the Katana. Much nicer now weather wise. Still selling the Katana as soon as I figure out a paint scheme and if I want to go street fighter on it or stock on the panels.

Must of been fortunate for me the past 3yrs. Visited mother-inlaw in Columbus once in July, next time in August and one year in Sept..........65-70degrees each time and a bit overcast.

                  Hi Moto,
an upward cap is something most Canadian riders never come across.
Downward, now, we know all about that.
Absent heated suits or snowmobile gear the downward comfort limit is about
7ºC. Below that temperature bike tires start to harden and lose their grip anyway
But a top cap? I'd say ~35ºC for any kind of riding comfort.
Riding in 42ºC in Montana had us down to T-shirts.
Me, T + jeans and wearing Alva's shortie helmet, Alva in the sidecar wearing T + shorts & sunhat.
Only the thought of the Motel pool waiting for us mid-afternoon kept us from mutual murder.

Hi Fred, On a trip, don't mind whatever is dished out for weather.......that's all part of 'the ride'. But to jump on the scoot and intentionally go ride in 90+ degree weather......gonna have a hard time makin' that happen, unless an emergency.

Was 109 degrees with a heat index of 115 here yesterday. And I rode. Miserable at the stoplights, and like a blast furnace while moving, but the a/c in my truck is out at the moment, so it's a catch 22. Like Greg stated, looking at mid 80's this coming week, and I won't complain. The last three years of drought and triple digits for months on end will hopefully not occur this summer.

                        (from an IBA article)
                        In Summary…
The magic number is 93. Below 93°F, it’s fairly easy to stay cool on a motorcycle as long as you are moving fast enough to get some wind against your skin for convective cooling. A mesh riding suit feels great, only below 93.
Above 93°F, it’s a different world. The wind is no longer your friend. For long distance riding in temperature higher than 93°F, you need to (1) minimize your body’s exposure to direct wind blast; (2) wear wicking undergarments, including a helmet liner; (3) carry an adequate supply of cool water and drink frequently; and (4) insulate any parts of your body exposed to engine heat or radiator discharge. Dress right, drink right, and enjoy the ride.

That is the reason I left Mi. I just relocated to central Florida last week. Now that we just about have the house put together, maybe I can get started in my garage. I know I loaded 2 bikes on the U-Haul.....they have to be here somewhere

It was in the mid 60's this morning riding to work. VERY unusual for July in Oklahoma. I was contemplating turning around to go back and get at least a vest.

I thought the globe was warming.
