That used to the human element......not good. (saw that some time back on the ST site, which had some interesting feedback of similar animal confrontations).

      Nice doggy

      Hi Nate !

      How are you ?
I was chased down on my 650 by a greatdane/shepard mix. I was turning left from a stop sign started pulling out and notice this huge dog 2 houses down to the right running across his owners front lawn. I was just getting the bike running and testing it around the block. Dog kept coming across the next lawn, he was after me came into my head so I gave it the throttle. Sucker had long legs and zeroed on me, bites the front tire between the engine and fender. I hit the brakes not wanting to run him over but I flew off the right side of the bike landing on my right foot then falling into a slide on my palms. Laying in the street all I could think was what happened to the dog ? Struggled up looked back and he was pinned under the bike. I hear sizzling, popping, the exhaust is across his stomach, I think it's burning him, grab the bike and lift it up, he runs away. Put the bike on the side stand, owner lady comes over and asked if I was all right. That's when I start checking me, can't hardly stand on right leg, knee and ankle sprain, fingers hurt, wrists sprained. Then she starts yelling Shane, SHANE come, he's half a block up the street right across from my house. Tell her I'll push the bike to my house it's right over there then maybe he will come. Had a hard time getting that bike back to the house but did, looked it over real quick, head light, ears, fender, clutch lever, mirror, left turn signals, mostly stuff that I was going to work on anyway. Hobble over to her house, dogs in the back seat 2" Z cut in the top of his head and tire tracks on his face. She was just taking him to the vet for his yearly and did not think she needed a leash to go from the house to the car but she knew he hated anything that turns/spins. He lost 1/2 doz. teeth, 13 Stitches but OK. The exhaust was not even hot enough to burn him through the hair. It was him pissing and farting that made the noise. To this day when I ride any bike past that house he is banging on the picture window trying to get me. My knee never fully came back.

Had a neighbors dog, not sure what breed but medium in size, that would run at me barking every morning on the way to work. There is a stop sign right by where he lives and I stopped and jumped off the bike several times and chased him back home. But, he was relentless.

One morning he ran out and got close to my left leg, big mistake on his part, I kicked him right in the jaw while I was moving and knocked him off into the ditch.

        Problem solved........

It is the law here too but I was more concerned with the dogs condition than mine. Just dumb on my part !!!!! Hope there is not a next time but if there is things may be LAWFUL or NOT ? ? Remember driving behind dad when a dog came out of a country farm, ran into the car, he killed it, said he was sorry and we all drove away.

There is always the old farmers trick when someone's dog would keep chasing them. Tie a burlap sack to a wheel and let the dog catch up. Once he bites the burlap sack the problem is immediately solved. While I have not done this particular fix I have seen it work.

I lucked out when a mid sized dog came after me just as mentioned, across the front lawn as I was turning a corner. Fluke of flukes, I lashed out with my boot at his head and caught him with the corner of my heel right behind the ear which must have REALLY hurt because he howled and disappeared with his tail between his legs. After that he never chased me again. Just lucky. Also, I'd have had my lawyer talking to that lady about my medical bills and bike crash.

Years ago when I was teen driver a dog ran otu in front of me and I swerved to miss it, I wound up runnign off the road and through a maze fo trees before I got back on the road. Last time I swerved for an animal.

If you have an animal in your neighborhood that is a constant annoyance, the answer is simple. Bowl of antifreeze left conventiently where the animal can get to it.

Back when I was a kid, a dog was chasing me on my mini-bike, his hind leg got caught in the chain/sprocket at the rear wheel causing the wheel to lock up. We both went down, dog didn't walk so good anymore after that, I just had a little road rash. I'll never forget the yelping sound that dog made when that happened.

That way he won't freeze up left out in the cold.

My uncle always said if an animal gets in front of you hit the gas, your better off with the front end up than down, braking.
