The third-party manuals are alright but some stuff is wrong. If you can, buy a Yamaha factory service manual. It uses the base 1978E for most of the book but has all of the notes, supplements, and schematics for each model/year.
I bought my manual and only got the one that went up to 1980G/LG/SG but if I had it to do over again I'd get the one for a 1981 XS1100H/LH/SH. That way you won't have to buy a new manual when you acquire more XS11s and one or three of them are '81s.
