  • Concerned about Colorado riders

I know we have at least a couple of riders up there. Those fires sound terrible! I hope none of our xsive brothers and sisters are effected. How you doin' Jerry?

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

Hi there Ed! No threat here on the WesternSlope. Jerry's bout 20mi. from me just east on I-70. CZ, Bonz and few others on the EasternSlope may have some smoke haze from the three different fires goin on. None are in the direct area though. Bonz, living at Woodland Park would likely have a smoke haze comin' over the mountain from fire inthe RoyalGorgeBridge area. At this point, looks like no help from mother nature, and with the 90+ degree weather and easterly high winds, likely hard to contain.

I am northwest in Lakewood. My son is in Parker. I think one xs'er is in Colo. Sprngs. Smoky, smelly and hazy everywhere. My bike was covered in smokey crap this morning when I left for work in Golden. I will have to clean the air filter this weekend.

I live on the western side of the state but own property (and an RV trailer) located in the center of the state about 100 SW of Denver. (Hwy 285 to Como then south on county road 15.) About the same to Colorado Springs (last year's Waldo Canyon and this year's Black Forest fires) as to Denver if I take the alternate route and drop down to Hwy 24 and into Colorado Springs that way. Glad to say no fires near my property. I have 7 acres covered with aspen and various varieties of pine and spruce. Was there this weekend and a high priority is removing the dead wood, mostly old aspen, and cleaning up the lot to help mitigate the danger of fire. Problem is the closest 'burn pit' is only open on Saturdays so SWMBO and myself "stage" loads of dead wood and take them to the pit the next Saturday morning.

          Thanks for asking, Special Ed!

Maps and photos of the lot are on my blog page at
http://www.appleattic.net/blog if anyone is interested in taking a look.

First, thanks for the call out to us Colo folks. Really appreciate the thought!

Fire ended up 6 miles as the crow flies from our place in Palmer Lake, but was not a direct threat. Plenty of smoke and haze in the air to sting the eyes when riding to work down I-25. Could see the fire glow and flare ups after dark watching from our deck looking east the first few nights.

Plenty of friends lost it all, hard to fathom really, but it's astronomical the impact the fire had.

Royal Gorge Fire was not in play for us, 50-60 miles sw of here.

              Just a reminder...

http://www.inciweb.org is a site that has reports, updates, and other info on fires and other natural disasters that occur nation wide. It is a good source of information for all current fires and some past fires.

No affiliation, just someone interested in this stuff.

                Thanks for the link, Jerry

I have it bookmarked and will refer to it often. I'm glad that you, and other respondents are OK, and hope to see you at the Cali Rally!
