    Please read

UPDATE: I talked to the hosting company again and they are gonna get right on the move. It might be tonight or it might be tomorrow depending on how much he can get done and how many interruptions he has.

When the transfer happens, the site could be down for 2~4 hours starting at midnight EDT. If all goes well, most of us won't even notice.

If I get any more info, I'll pass it along.

I donated $20 yesterday and indeed, PayPal is a vampire to the donated party as that $20 is several dollars less on the recipients end.

As so many of us have mentioned already if not in this thread, in others; the collective knowledge in this forum has saved us countless hours of barking up the wrong tree and has helped us find answers we never would have thought of ourselves. Along with the access to a friendly exchange of prices among friends, this forum has saved me personally a lot of time and money.

Nobody likes to be barraged with advertisements or badgered to donate and I appreciate JP making this forum so wonderfully user friendly but I surely am not adverse to being reminded there are bills due that need to be paid & the only payment comes from donations. Maybe like NPR does fund drives on a periodic basis, a temporary mention of donations needed on each page would be of help?

I think most of us care enough to respond when we're reminded.

I have gotten more help from this site than probably any other car/bike site I've ever been a member of. And for the bike to be somewhat "rare" (I mean when compared to like an R6 or Goldwing) I am always surprised at how busy the board is. Most boards for any 70/80s bike I've owned, especially odd bikes, have 2-3 posts a week MAX and are usually completely dead or don't even have a website to post to.

I'll be getting paid tomorrow and will donate $10 or $20. Would love to give a lot more but my wife has been laid off for six months now so you know how that goes.

          Bandwidth what is it?

          Off topic I guess

Not really a computer person but is bandwidth just the traffic that we just use to view the site or also for storage on the server?
If it is storage then maybe we can help a little if we didnt repost, in alot of the replys, the pictures of the origional post? Dont they take up alot of room?

Bandwidth is sort of like AMP draw on an electrical circuit. How much data do you pull over the network at a given time. It does not care if it is text, photos, or what. It is measure in Megabytes per second, or Gigabytes per second.

As to the photos, that is a good question. The photos are not stored on the site, so that saves storage space, but when you pull them from the storage by a link on this site, does that data transfer through this site and count as bandwidth from the XS11 or not?

Just donated today. This site has been a wonderful resource. Without it, I suspect a lot of XS11s would have been relegated to the scrap pile. Like a number of other sites that I utilize, this sharing of information and parts availability is what affords us the ability and inspiration to keep these great bikes going. Thanks for all that you do,

what would a fair yearly or monthly donation be? I know the word is donation but some kind of $ number might help.

Please forgive me if this sounds familiar.

A fair yearly or monthly donation is whatever you're comfortable with. Most folks donate between $5 and $25. Some donate more than that and that's wonderful.

Paypal fees are a higher percentage for lower amounts but 4 donations of $5 spread out over a year is fine if someone is uncomfortable with a 1 time donation of $20. Or even just a 1 time donation of $5 if that's what you can do.

Whatever works for each of you, really.

I know that I have donated more than a few times but I seem to forget when was the last time I did. It always seems like yesterday.
Any chance that we could get a yearly reminder? I would prefer myself to donate yearly as it is easier. Maybe something tied in like our birthday dates that show up on the site, and then a reminder could be sent as well. Would be a cool to have a reminder for us that have CRAFT. I know I would like that, although others opinions may not agree.
Possibly when we fill out our info for site sign in we could ask for weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly donation reminders or there even could be a check box that says "I will give when I damn well feel like it or can afford it".. I don't know what the fix is but I am throwing ideas out there to see if anyone thinks they are good or crap.
I also wonder about the lurkers on the site and the traffic they create. It seems to me that on many of the other sites I visit, that they limit the lurkers to the thread they inquired about and do not give them permission to view the rest of the forum without signing in. Would that slow down traffic enough to afford cheaper rates? Or would it make fellows who may eventually join this forum decide this forum was not for them?
I do not know the answers, I just wanted to speak up a bit and stir ideas from the members. Who knows maybe someone has a bright idea that will work for all.
I will make a donation as this has served as a reminder to me that it has been quite a while since my last one. Sometimes I need a poke to wake me up.

                      Hey there Ras,

Well, the only DATE reminder that the site performs is the BIRTHDAY reminder IF someone has it in their Profile info. You don't have to list/show your YEAR for security purposes, but I think it will still display on the main forum page, and the site's software sends out an EMAIL reminder again IF you have a real/working email address listed in your profile info. That could be a good time to be a reminder for folks...they've gotten 1 year older, and so it's been a year since they donated!? JAT.

And as to the Paypal fees....IIRC someone informed me that if a person giving the $$ specifies a GIFT...since we are neither ordering goods or services, then they don't attach fees to the GIFT!?!? I've already made my donation for the year...close enough to my B'day also! But perhaps if the next few folks see this, they can try the GIFT process, and then hopefully JP can review the Paypal account and see IF fees were taken from the $$ received, and then let us know. If fees were deferred with the GIFT, then that's the way we should do it, so more $$ gets to be applied to paying OUR bills instead of lining Paypal's pockets!

The fee free only works for personal PayPal accounts (buisness accounts are not included here) and only with a checking account. Credit cards always have fees but with the gift option you can choose WHO pays the fees, you or the recipient.

You have to do the same on your computer. I have a program called Crap Cleaner installed that clears the cache and registry as well. Basically your computer remembers to look at the old place to find XS11, until you delete its memory.
