Today I went to 7-11 for a slurpy. When I came out with brain freeze I saw a KZ 1000 police bike t the pumps. So I went over there and started jabbering at the guy. At first glance I asked him if it was a late seventies. He said it was a 2005. So I looked a little closer and saw manufacturer stickers and some minor differences that looked to be more modern than the late seventies era. He told me it was retired in Portland Oregon, and he bought it at an auction. That thing was really neat. I love the idea of an old style bike with all the old technologies in a like new package. It had BS 34 carbs. I would love to get my hands on one of those for a touring bike. It even had the old saddle style seat. I had the chance to buy a 78 KZ 1000 police bike in 2007 but I ended up getting something else.

Hi Yard Dog, yes, these were the real deal. I had a few "experiences" with these while they were in service over here. They were revered by the officers who rode them, such a huge leap forward from the CB750's that they replaced.
We located one languishing in a tiny regional museum west of Brisbane recently. here's some pics of it.....
You may also notice a KZ1000 police bike beside it, an import over here and not seen on our roads in its specification.
It's not in pristine condition, but it's the only one we've come across in recent times. Lots of them got broken for spares, and you'll see quite a few Aussie XS's getting around with the white faced speedo, as they are pretty common at the wreckers.
They may not look as pretty as the kaw bikes over there, but they were built for the roads we have to deal with over here.
Here's a link to our museum visit thread. There's some extremely rare bikes in the owners (private) collection.- http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php...11749#msg1174979 SF Special W/ Stock all original motor @ 384,000klms
