LOL...as a teacher, I often need to contact parents, and email is now the preferred method, but it feels strange to send a message that "Your daughter is misbehaving in class" to RedHotLatina69@Hotmail.com....

Hi Fred,
I'm just happy you don't address me as 'Pinhead.' So others should be as well. I'm sure you could come up with any number of silly sarcastic names to use instead of one's proper or display name. Perhaps it's the other parties problem in this instance.
-JB1990 Ninja ZX-10. It's the Silver Surfer. HI-YA!!
2006 Yamaha XT-225. Yep, I take it on the interstate. It's Blue Butt.
1982 Toyota 4x4. 22R Cammed, 38/38, 2" pipe, 20R head with OS valves, performance grind and other fun stuff. It's Blue RASPberry.
1969 Ford F-250 Camper Special resto project. 390 RV cam, Demon carb, Sanderson headers, 2 and a quarter pipes with Magnaflow mufflers. It's Blue Jay.

I still think there is a difference between a members profile and his signature. If the signature has his name go for it. If you have to look for his name on his profile no. The profile is only available to "members" to view and some will not include their name in the signature for many reasons. Whatever those reasons I think it should be respected.
I am in the minority here but the world of computers makes it a world where we need to exercise what little caution we can. My name is not usually anywhere on this site other than PM's and this post. It is freely available to members who look up my profile but they are members and not some overseas monkey gathering info.
We warn of posting your email address on here but freely give our location in our signatures. Now you add a name to it and all they need is your home phone number and they are off.
I think this is what Fred was talking about as he always addresses me as Rasputin or Ras in the threads. One time he replied using my name and I thought his response was to me but a closer read on the thread showed me he was talking to another member who had posted prior to mine (his name in signature). who happened to have the same given name. Given names in a thread add to confusion as to who one is responding to.2-79 XS1100 SF

Shakespeare sez "Who steals my purse steals trash".
Whoever steals my billfold steals 50 cents in Canadian Tire money and some gas receipts so identity theft don't worry me although it's a real concern for some folks.
So from now on, everyone gets their header name, even though the significance of some of them escapes me.
Mine is simple; Fredintoon = Fred in (Saska)toon.
Others are meant to deceive.

Back in the day, (when I could still see my willie) I had me a little Russian queen. She was not royalty but she was a queen none the less. Boney M had a song out about then and I got named! It has kind of stuck so I use it to this day with many pleasant memories attached to it.
It was better than the previous nickname I had which was "Toad" (after Terry on the American Grafitti movie).
I was only expressing my opinion and thought I had to clarify that a signature was a different thing than a profile. I have no problem with you using my name but many might. Do what you want.2-79 XS1100 SF
