  • Hey guys im back.

Hey guys sorry I've been off for awhile now but i still have my xs1100 midnight Special limited edition. I finally ordered rebuild kits and floats for the carbs. She's been sitting around for awhile but in a warm place in my shed. Can not believe the price of parts is so expensive. Just for the carbs.

Not trying to make waves but unless you have a technical question this post belongs in the lounge...

Some where there are some nice storage tips if you have to leave her sitting around long. I know I like to drain the gas from my tank and carbs over winter (tank is lined) and I store it in my heated basement. If your carbs are dirty to start it probably doesn't really matter if you planned on cleaning them...

Genuine Mikuni jets are recommended, results may very if you use other brands and I know the biggest difference are the pilot jets (number of cross holes is important)...

Make sure you refer to the float height setting listed on the site for you new floats. Just buying new ones and putting them in wont help if they height isnt set correctly.

When you get the rebuild kits make sure that the jets are correct. A lot of the kits out there come with the wrong jets.

It was moved to the lounge after my comment. I looked at his other posts after I made the comment then realized they all started as off topic theads then turned technical as they got going (my bad). Just reading his title and first post it did not appear he was looking for any technical advice and made the suggestion. It just happened to turn technical because we love telling people how to do things and what issues they could run into. I'm not trying to be the forum police by any means but theres so many threads in the the discussion that I feel off topic posts take away from the others.

Makes me believe there was a lot of gas in the crank and it evaporated. I'd change the oil for good measure. Another thing that happened to me was the crank got over filled with gas and I could not see the level. Left me wondering where the oil went until it came shooting into the carbs from the crank case vent hose.
