  • Jim Hamjam Surgery Update

    Hello to All,
On Friday April 19th Jim "Hamjam" Hamilton underwent open heart surgery to install a mechanical heart pump or an LVAD.

    http://www.chfpatients.com/implants/lvads.htm

I have an update on his condition and will continue to post updates as I receive them. This is the first email for Jim.

    Hi Wayne and Brian

I am so happy to report that Jim's surgery went very well today! I am just home from the hospital which is why this is late coming to you.
When I left, Jim was still on the ventilator and not really conscious but was medically stable. They are hoping to pull the breathing
tube by tomorrow morning. He has to be awake enough to breathe on his own!! This is a great start and I am hopeful his recovery will
continue on this positive path. I can't thank you guys enough for your good wishes and prayers and sending a healing vibe our way. I will
try to update you from time to time. Tomorrow's a new day!! Jim asked that you repost this with the XS plus group.

    thanks
    Anne

Since talking to Anne this morning, Jim is awake and sipping orange juice. She also said they were going to attempt to get him up on his feet today. Very positive news for sure.

You may post well wishes here for Jim and I will continue to keep everyone up to speed.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

      Heya Jim!!

      Well Jim, that is the best news I've heard in the last week! You now have time to start boning up on that music trivia for the weeks ahead. Here's a little something to get you started;

Yeah, she makes me feel like a river
      That carries me away.

Just got another email update...Jim you are doing well and it looks as though our prayers are being answered...although this is a slow healing process we wish you Godspeed on recovery. Open heart surgery is no walk in the park...back in the late 70's my father had a triple bypass and the physical trauma he had to endure post surgery was the worst thing he had to deal with.

More Good News For Jim (Recovery Update)

                        Hi Everyone,
I received this from Anne-Marie (Jims Wife) today with more promising news.
Here is her email as follows,

                        Hello all
A quick update on Jim's condition. He has done incredibly well and even exceeded expectations in his recovery. Although still very tired and sore as you can imagine, he is now sitting up in the chair and going for a few walks around the ICU (with a great entourage of people, tubes and batteries!)They are actually planning to transfer him out of ICU to the ward by days end. He will be on a special unit for VAD patients on the 4th floor, where the staff have special training and will provide us with our extensive training as soon as Jim is well enough. I expect he will be allowed short visits by non-family by mid week. He has his phone with him so feel free to e-mail him or text him. Depending on his pain med schedule you may receive a completely incoherent reply (I have had some dillies!)or a readable note. Best not to phone Jim for a few days yet; he tires very quickly. Thanks once more for all your support.

                        Anne-Marie

                        Good news for sure,
                        Wayne
