  • UPS/FedEx rant

    Just a short rant-

I really hate UPS and Fedex. I ordered $1000 worth of parts for my bike Monday night.

19 different packages. All but 4 were shipped USPS. All but 4 showed up by Friday...

Two of them sat at the town UPS from Tuesday until Saturday. Then it sat in Eagan MN (4 hours from me) from Saturday until tonight.

Same story on the Fedex package except it actually started 4 hours from me and just showed up today.

On top of all that, UPS wont even bring packages to our door. He will get his lazy ass out of the truck, put a note on our door and take the package to the apartment office building about 2 blocks away. If youre going to put the sticker on the door, how much more work is it to bring the box with?! I dont pay shipping to have things delivered most of the way to my door.

I guess my main point is, I love the US Postal Service. Ive never had a delay or a problem. Ever.

Thanks for listening to me bitch.
    Nate

USPS rocks to Canada too. No extra fees, unlike UPS and FEDEX who charge Canadians their own "clearance and brokerage fees". I once bought a set of boots and UPS charged me MORE in fees than I paid for the boots!! USPS is the ONLY way I go to Canada.

Well here where I am at FEDEx is usually delivered by a guy in a rental truck or van. They put it at the door and run. UPS varries in what they do. There is a hub in Front Royal 22 miles away and the order gets there and sits a day or so then is shipped 130 miles away to Richmond where is might sit a day or might sit a week. Then it returns to Front Royal usually the next day it shows out for delivery and then either comes to the door or may be delivered to the post office for delivery. The only consistant delivery where I am at is the USPS who is consistantly on time or ahead of time and waits at the door for larger packages or takes them back to office and leaves a note in the mail box.

So here its god bless the Post Office and Devil may care with Fedex! And with UPS flip a coin because the bet is you can not track it and know what day it might arrive or where.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

I have great service from UPS. My dog loves them. The driver always brings him a dog biscuit. If no one is home, the package gets left on the porch with a biscuit on top.

I get great service from FEDEX. They have not fouled me up yet. The driver is afraid of the dog. He has been a bite victim. (not by my dog)

I get great service from USPS. She has dog biscuits too! She leaves my packages on the porch out of the weather.

The dog gives the nod to the brown truck. That is only because of the assured biscuit delivery. I use whichever one is most convenient at the time. (or cheaper) You folks in Canada wouldn't hate UPS so much if they enjoyed the same Customs advantage the post office enjoys.

To add to the story, the two boxes from UPS in my first post got to the hub in town about 6 last night. Seems they weren't put on a truck today so I have to wait another day and the damn things are 5 minutes away.

            It Depends

I've had similar experiences with all 3 carriers, but now I know my Fed-Ex driver's cell number as well as my UPS driver's so if I have to be outta pocket, I can contact them and make arrangements for the delivery. Also, my UPS driver knows where to hide my packages if I have not been in contact with him and he leaves a note on the door to alert me to retrieve a hidden package. But I definitely have had major issues in the past when I lived elsewhere.

It can really depend on your local driver; UPS is usually pretty good but I can tell you that complaining can make a difference. Where you live can affect it too; if chances of theft are high, they won't leave stuff.

I've had more trouble with FedEx. Their 'ground' drivers are all 'contractors' (not employees of FedEx) and delivery quality can be uneven. They seem to have a lot of turnover in drivers, but again, complaining can change things although it's not always as effective as it is with UPS.

Not leaving packages is a good thing so they dont get stolen, but in my case they wont even ring my door. Just put the tag on the door and leave.

UPS is like a really bad swear word up here as far as brokerage goes. Paid more in brokerage than the item cost a few times.
Ups is in the same union as myself up here and I know for fact that up here they are not even required to ring the doorbell or knock. They drop any item shipped on the steps and leave. Now my 12 dollar item may be ok like that my 250 dollar item is not. They do not care and no amount of calling or b!itching will fix it.
What can Brown do for me? Die and go away! If shipping on an item is to be UPS I will not buy it no matter what!
USPS and our crappy Canada post is what does it for me. Cheap, efficient, one time, (although it is very slow), but you can track it and be sure it will be at your door when you need it. If not, then you have to go to the post office to get it. Another plus is they hold it for 2 weeks before returning it. UPS is about 2 days and then it goes back to the sender.
