    REGINA _ Motorcyclists in Saskatchewan say they’re shocked at an SGI submission to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel that could see their insurance costs go up by an average of 73 per cent.

    While other vehicles have caps on how much insurance rates can increase for them in a given year, SGI is calling for the removal of a similar cap on motorbikes.

    Don Fuller, a Regina motorcycle enthusiast who has been riding since 1968, says he had a look at information provided on SGI’s website to determine what the changes might mean for his five bikes.

    He was especially stunned at the proposed rate for a Ducati streetbike in his collection, which he could end up paying up to two-thirds of the resale value to insure.

    Hi slo mo,
    yes, it's true. 57% average rate increase. I reckon it's mostly to make the ~20% raise they'll eventually settle for seem reasonable rather than a savage imposition.
    Into this come statements that show that the bastards are double-dipping.
    Both the Minister responsible for SGI and SGI's CEO have stated that the high cost of motorcycle insurance is to pay for motorcyclists injuries.
    Every Saskatchewan resident has a Sask Health Card that pays for a person's hospitalization; it's funded through general taxation.
    If I break my leg skiing, mountain climbing or falling off my roof, Sask Health pays the bill.
    But according to the Minister and the CEO if I break my leg falling off my bike the bill goes to SGI.
    This means that I'm paying twice because one Crown Corporation can re-bill another.
