  • 1980 std. parts bike

I picked up a parts bike last week from the son of an old riding friend. Lyn, my old riding buddy passed away last month and his son is selling most of his stuff. The bike has the 160 mph speedometer and solid brake rotors. I was thinking it was a 78 or 79, but the ser. # on both the frame and engine is 3H5-005525. The chart on this site says it is a 1980 std.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your friend was an XS11 owner, but not a member on here?

I'm sure if you put some pictures up, others here would be happy to point out some clues to the year of the bike that you might have overlooked.
'81 XS11H Venturer - holed up in storage while life happened since 07/08/04
'81 Kawasaki KE175 enduro - 63 mph of smokey fun, now with collector plates!

      Hi Earl,
I've read that the 1980 Standard still had solid rotors and the stock 85mph speedo could have been swapped for a real one.

No, he was not a member here. He sold his running XS1100 in the late 90’s and bought a HD Dresser. He also had two parts bikes, the 80 std. that I just got and an 81 XS Venturer. Sorry to have to tell this, but about five years ago Lyn used the Venturer frame to build a VW trike. He used the Venturer frame because he had the title for it.
I will try to get some pics of the parts bike posted.
