I owned an 08 silverado(5.3l) and it started using alot of oil. It was just off warranty but still less than 100K km. So I joined the silverado forum to do research and found out it's a very common problem with a hit and miss factory fix. Usually leads to replacing pistons and rings. No word on how long that fix lasts but after talking to the service manager, I would be paying the whole nut myself. This p....d me off. GMC has known of this issue since 2004 and done nothing with the design, even the 2013's are reporting the same issue.
Well as they say, if a dog bites you once , it's the dogs fault, if the dog bites you twice, it's your fault. I descided to deal it while it still had some value and replaced it with a new Dodge. I went back on the silverado forum and told them what I was doing and why. Guess what, when I tried to join the Dodge forum, I was told that I'm now on the international spammers list. The Silverado people saw fit to screw me again.
Anyone know if you can get yourself removed from the list, and you think there is any recourse action here.

      Hey Mack,

I don't know who the "F" the GMC forum or the Dodge Forum's admin are or what they are doing, but I did a search for both your current email addy, and the IP that you registered with, and did NOT see any google results for spammers. When I was trying to block spammers IP addy's, I would search both their IP and their emails, and would find reports of them on a lot of the Antispammer sites!

BTW, your ISP uses DYNAMIC IP addressess for your access because our site logs everybody's IP addy when they access/log onto the site, and you have a list of about 100 or so different ones...they are in sequences....very similar to each other, but not just 1 or 2, so aside from your email address, it would be difficult for the DODGE site to block your registration IF you were to use another email address and ID info...name and such!?

I would try to contact them to find out what they mean by you being on the Spammer's List....did they put you on it, or did their forum software FLAG your current IP addy as possibly one that is "also" used by spammers for fake registrations???

I'm no I.T. guy, so hopefully a few others here with more "net savvy" will chime in!?

I can't believe you were reported to international spammers for that. I would try and contact them directly. Someone has broken an internet law doing that.

As for the trucks, I see both trucks every day at my profession and haven't run into the problem you describe about the Silverado. However, there is bulletin concerning the PCV system and a replacing a valve cover with an upgraded baffle because of oil being sucked into the intake causing excessive consumption.

The 5.3 is known for leaking from the rear main crankshaft seal though. I just replaced one today but that engine has over 200K miles.

I am not a huge fan of Chrysler products but I don't see many for much mechanical problems but our electrical tech is over run with them. I don't recall seeing any with 200K on the odometer.

        Good luck with the Dodge.

          list

TC: their admin said I was flagged, I do have another Email adress I used when I went to India for back surgery and it worked to get me on the Dodge site.
Greg: My truck (silverado) worked good until it went off warranty, within a couple months it was drinking oil. I was carrying 3 quarts in the cab with me. On the forum there was a lot complaints, enough that they had three dedicated topic to the issue. yes the valve cover and an oil deflector were part of the factory phase two fix. The results for these were hit and miss. The ones that split the (I think it was #2 &7 spark plugs) required pistons and rings. The funny thing was that GM was aware as far back as 04 and haven't done anything about it. The site I was on had something like 24,640 thread complaints. I know that probably isn't a lot when you think of the volume produced over that period, but if I was an engineer issuing factory directives on the subject, I'd be curious why some have the problem and some don't.
Where my head was at, was if I had to put out five or six grand for a piston and ring job, how long would that last before i had to do it again? and again and again. Better to cut my loses and move to a brand I've known for years. I'm old enough now that this will be my last new vehicle. The only time it will get driven is in the summer to haul the trailers. Rest of the time my butt is going to be straddling two wheels.
