  • Mold in Daughters car

Anyone know how to get black mould out of the carpeting of a car. My daughter has mold from the baby dropping his bottle on the floor where she can't reach it while driving. It looks like it has been there a long time and has turned black.

Depending on the car it may be easier and or less expensive to buy some carpet to replace it with.

        Mack,
If it is milk that has been spilled you wil never get the smell out.
My kids were never allowed milk in the car only juice.
I like the bleach idea to remove the spots (if not milk)

A cup of bleach in a gallon of water will kill the mold spores (mould in english ) but the stain will be a little harder to deal with. Once the mould is dead then see if you can find some dye of the same colour, but you need to be sure the mould is dead to start with, or it will come back.

Strong sunlight for a few hours will also kill mould but its not always easy, or practical to drag affected areas into the sun.

I use, on the Sunbrella fabric of our popup camper, a mixture of 4oz. Clorox- 2oz. Murphy's Oil soap to 1gal. water, with stellar results in removing black mildew & mold spawned by the forest which it's exposed to all season.

Some real stubborn stains require soaking and maybe a second application but they always come out. YMMV

                Hi Mack,
along with the other posts, best I can think of is Chlorine bleach.
There may be propriatory cleaners that work OK too. Try a pet store for the stuff that cleans doggie poo off the rug.
Work it in with a scrub brush and suck it out with a wet-dry shop vac.
                Analogous story:-
Back in the day my neighbor Eddie bought a new Chevette that he fed his kids McDonalds, chocolate bars, etc. in; just like he did in his old beater car.
Mebbe a year later he organised a working party to clean up the Chevette for resale.
I reckon we washed 10,000 calories off that car's roof liner alone.
                Good luck with the clean-up.

mack, one thing to avoid is using straight Bleach of any kind.

It must be diluted, you don't want a bleach mark after you remove the stain.

                    Mold

Well I'm going to let her deal with it, I showed her your responses and am leaving it at that. However I think I'm going to make a batch of the enzyme cleaner for future use. I dig that you let it do the work for you. Thanx guys.

I deffinetly would not use bleach,I used to be a manager for a water and fire restoration company, and owned my own carpet cleaning company.Bleach takes the dye out of the seat,or at the very least makes it run. There are products out there to kill mold without ruining the upolstery.Have your daughter do some research on the subject or have her hire a professional carpet cleaner to do the job. It's cheaper than replacing the carpet.By the way,as I'm sure you know, black mold is very dangerous if inhaled, can make you very sick,or worse. So,make sure she gets that taken care of.

Enzyme's are great for food product's but not so sure of the results for mold. The worse thing in the world is Kool-Aid,I don't even allow it in my house.Stain on carpet is all but impossible to remove.

I'd pull the seats and then remove the carpet. The local car wash is a great way to clean the carpet then lay it out in the sun to dry.
