I realize this is the XS11 forum, but I was just over at the Triples forum, for the XS750s and 850s, and I hate that forum. Navigating it is all but impossible, and nothing seems to work. There is more threads on improving that site than there is about the bikes. I would like to ask the moderators here if they could start a section for XS750 triples, for those of us who like it better here.

We already have one here - the Other Bike Discussion forum - I have posted there about my XJ550, XS400 and you can also ask in the Members Lounge - we are not that picky I don't think!
I have thought about getting a triple for touring since they are supposed to get better gas mileage.

I picked up and xs850 last year and the mpg isn't alot better than the xs11. It is a nice bike but I miss running the 11.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)
80 XS850 Special (Old Faithful)
80 XS11 Standard sorta stock (Beatrice)

They get better gas mileage, but, nothing to write home about! In-fact, my 750's get high 30's on average. It seemed like I was at the gas station quite a bit with 750 or 1100 either way.1979 XS1100F

But I cannot see going to the 650 - my son's Maxim 550 is same frame and its too small for comfortable touring at my size. It does get 50+ mpg though.

I was talking about the SECA XJ650 with shaft drive Marty - I think a twin would be too buzzy for a long trip. Maybe not - perhaps more RPM dependent.
I am actually considering a newish Yamaha 650 V4 for Dylan for a graduation present.(shhh dont tell HIM) Should be smooth enough AND get good mpg. There seem to be plenty on Craigslist with low miles and low $.

The XS650 tours well as long as you're in no hurry. At 50-60 mph it's great fun all day long. While it easily stays with traffic on the super slab, it isn't any fun doing so. I brought it up because it is of larger stature than the XJ650 Maxim. The SECA is another story. The XJ bikes have a good forum.Marty (in Mississippi)
