  • Acetone/gas milage

It's been a while since I have run across anything about the acetone issue.
I just took an 85 Toyota (carbureted) down to have the annual smog and it passed but gut barely. Hydrocarbons were higher than I like.

Has anyone been running the acetone mix in a car on any regular basis?

I ran the acetone mix in the truck at about 1oz per 5 gallon of gas after the last smog test and noticed that acceleration seemed smoother and it seemed kike the engine was working less for the power. I never really drove it any great didtance to get a good idea of the gas millage. I quit because I was afraid of all of the rubber hoses and seals.

    Thanks in advance.

I believe you should rightly be cautious of acetone and seals. Sometime ago a thread was started which sent me down another approach to your problem.

    That link is here http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ghlight=marine

It referred to a link of considerable length here http://www.ls1.com/forums/f48/been-testing-91206/

So after a lot of reading I took this approach with both my bikes and my 85 F150. The carbs on my SF haven't been off in 3 or 4 years and mileage had fallen from 39 to 30. Came back to 37. I know I should pull and readjust and clean but I digress. The proof that the marine 2 stroke oil cleans gum came when the fuel gauge on my rear tank on the F150 started to work after a silence of about 15 years. It may not help but I deal with a lot of certified mechanics and even if they didn't all agree it is a good thing, they all did agree it will not hurt anything.Study up on that LS thread link.
